My horse is unshod behind and has very deep commisures (the deeper bit between the frog and the sole) in her hind feet. Is this normal? They are far deeper than her front feet and have got deeper recebtly. They are much deeper than my other horses. I pick her feet out religiously every day and she doesn't have thrush or anything smelly! Im not that clued up on unshod feet so just wanted to see what other people think! Thanks!

I posted on phoenixhorse (barefoot forum) recently about mine and concensus was I was lucky he has such great concavity. Are his frogs touching the floor when he stands on a hard surface?

As long as his frog is weight bearing then everyone seemed to think that depth of the collateral grooves was a really good thing, indicating how high P3 is suspended in the hoof capsule. Interestingly all three of mine have increased concavity in the hinds recently and I have no idea why. But my small footed warmblood has very, very deep feet and is weight bearing on his frogs and sound as a pound on all surfaces. Yours sounds the same. Just one of those things I guess.
