I cannot believe how hard it is to find new home for Macaulay. We had a lady interested, phoned, emailed etc, made arrangements to come and see him, phoned this morning to say she couldn't come and then this evening an email to say she had spoken to her vet who told her it was unwise to adopt Macaulay as he would chase her cats .................I told her that I had no idea what he would be like with cats when she first phoned.

I am now getting really worried about him, it is really hard homing him as it is, emotionally, but to be constantly let down by people who either do not tell you the whole truth or who leave things out.

He is such a lovely dog

I don't know your story, but sorry to hear you haven't found any takers. We have two deerhounds, one reg from a pup, and one rescued with no papers/history at 4/5 yrs old - both are fantastic and I would heartily recommend this breed as pets - less trouble than a lot of smaller dogs ;)

he is having trouble living as part of a pack with my borzoi. He is a great dog. I have been really careful who I have spoken to making sure they are hound people, but they are either at work all day (not telling me this during first conversation) or not telling me they have cats/chickens/ducks......he has killed a couple chickens and a duck. No idea what he is like with cats.

Probably obvious but have you tried lurcherlink? Proper hound folk; I'm sure they'd be able to help.

I went on to lurcherlink, there is someone on there who I said couldn't have Macaulay so she went on to the forum slagging me off and telling all kinds of lies about my dog, when I complained to the moderator they took her side so I cancelled my membership

:( so sorry to read this, there must be someone out there, deerhounds are such fab dogs.. the deerhound club used to have a newsletter, cant remember how often it went out, may be worth asking them and putting his story in there.......maybe cayla can come up with someone as she is very lurcher, longdog savvy and her oh used to have a deerhound....good luck

What a pity that you have changed your mind and decided that my brother cannot have Macauley. It would have been a super home, no childrenor cats, company of another dog, very responsible and experienced dog keepers etc etc. If anyone else knows of any deerhounds (not nec reg) who are looking for a forever home please contact me. kkjnevans@aol.com and I will pass your details on.

it was not a case of changing my mind, we were not going to make a decision until Macaulay had met Flynn. Your brother is a lovely lovely man, I cannot tell how lovely we thought he was and what a lovely daddy he would make But we felt that going between two homes and in and out of another dogs life would not be beneficial to Macaulay, he needs stability, also your brother mentioned that Flynn would "put Macaulay in his place" this is what was the worry as the problem we have here is that Macaulay is "put in his place" too often and we didn't want that for him. Macaulay is very very sensitive and did want him to be stressed with all the travelling your brother does between the Isle of White and North Wales.

I have sent a link to your brother for Lurcher Link, there are lots of lurchers on there needing homes.

As I said your brother is lovely, we like him a lot but my dog has to come first.

Macaulay has now gone to a really lovely lovely home with people who know and adore deerhounds and their random behaviour :) they have horses, out door people and lovely. He even is allowed to sleep in the bedroom! :)

Good luck my lovely boy, be good, you are in a home you deserve (don't know why I am typing that, he cannot read!!!)

Happy Holidays one and all and your fur babies
