Who has has an ill/injured horse and pulled them through against all odds? Thought it would be a nice uplifting, inspiring and hope-giving thread.

To start, I have an 8 year old mare, and a year ago she was diagnosed with chronic tear to the deep digital flexor tendon- in a very unusual place. The vet tried to open it up to shave the fibres but the adhesions were so thick from the scar tissue that he couldnt even reach the tendon :(. prognosis was not good and she went on box rest for 7 weeks on bute and high dose of 'tendoneaze' to help it heal nicely- her in hand walking was terrible and as it was very icy at this point (this time last year :O!!) she would often gallop off on the ice and do a nice little rodeo display across the fields (me = cringe) but couldnt keep her in so had to risk it, although 6/10 times this would happen. After this for 7 weeks she went out in a small paddock (I also signed off the horse-towed ice skating at this point.. I was very bruised!) the ice had melted a bit by this point somehow and she made the best of her tiny paddock and galloped around it turned it in to a mudbath and herself in to a mud pony.. nevermind...

then she started bit of ridden work, walking 5 mins- increasing to an hour then started trotting stride by stride, bit of canter... this went on for months! did a bit of dressage and failed miserably.

Then moved yard to a place with the perfect manege surface! not too deep for her tendon but not rock solid either- she truely transformed, no longer in pain she worked on the bit and mastered all the lateral movements she'd struggled with before. 9 months on we did our first time jump and 11 months on our first jumping show! (we won :D) continued to get placed and 13 months on here we are now :D against all odds her scar tissue has gone down a huge amount, never been lame since (and got those bloody wedge shoes off, shes now barefoot and 1000000% better) and jumping regularly with an hours work 5 days a week atm including jumping some times. vet was very impressed with her and diagnosed 1/10 on circle. she will always have her doses of msm and other supplements to keep her strong.

post yours please id love to read them, and how you did it !
