Following on from Feu Folet's question.

I don't believe that a Good Horseman/Woman necessarily has to be a Good Rider and that a GR is always a GH.

Your thoughts on this one please.

For a start someone who calls a horse by his or her name and not calling them ''IT'' That really bugs me !

Somebody who ensures the welfare of their animal(s) before they sling on a saddle & go for a spin, and after I hate it when folks don't properly groom after a ride

Someone who doesn't treat the horse like a machine, who knows how to get the best out of him/her (not 'it'!), someone the horse trusts and will listen to. I think being a good horseman/woman is an instinctive thing - you either are or you're not. And it's nothing to do with being a good rider.

A good horse woman/man is someone who puts their horse first, looks after them properly and loves them.doesnt necessarily mean they have to be a good rider or even ride at all.

A good rider is someone who can ride well and understand his/her horse, will work through eachothers riding problems together and who treats their horse with respect while in the saddle.

it really annoys me when i see young spoilt brats at shows whipping holy hell out of their horse, using unecessary spurs, and shouting rather than using proper leg aids and actually working together instead of against eachother. seems to be a common thing down here

Someone who really has a relationshop with horses. They understand there needs and always put there welfare first. This is how I would describe my YO's

Allthough would also define one as a good rider as well she is amazing. The other YO (husband and wife) is realy good at ummmm falling off! he is an ex jouster who used to tour around the world, if you want to learn to fall he is the one to show you which I think is a good rider in a strange way!
