I was wondering if my new fella would be suitable as a hack in showing classes, he is measured as 14.31/2 and is 26% Arab and fairly lightweight, with a very light stride and action. Could someone tell me what a hack should be like either in words or in pictures?

Many thanks

Having seen his pic I don't see why not and the above link is quite good. In years gone by small hacks were expected to have more bone than the large because traditionally a gentleman would ride his 'covert' hack to the hunt meet before getting on his hunter so a small hack should still be able to carry a grown man.

Many of the hacks you see today are overgrown show ponies and too fine IMO, a small hack should still be a minature horse and have a 'grown up' look that's really hard to describe.

The best thing to do is try him next season, have a look at the rules on the British Show Horse website and good luck!
