Denerving?

Does anyone know or had/have any horses that have been denerved and if so, what for and has it worked?

Its a really conflicting issue but i am interested nonetheless.

I have posted on vetenary but had no replies as yet :-(

tbh i haven't heard of good outcomes from denerving. Friend's horse is still not right and is now an expensive lawn mower.

I have heard varying reports on denerving. It can give horses a new lease of life but it doesnt solve the problem, it just stops the horse from feeling it.

Any horse which has been denerved cannot be competed under the rules of most associations and clubs. They are aupposed to be quite dangerous to ride as they dont have any feeling in one leg so are more prone to tripping and stumbling. You also have to be very careful with the denerved leg as they can get lamenesses or abcesses and it wont show.

If you think about it could you walk around normally if you permanently had a dead leg??

Denerving is also not permanent as the nerve's grow back. This can be surprisingly quick - only about a year or so sometimes. So you could spend quite a substantial sum getting your horse denerved along with the stress of doing it... and then you have to do it all over again a year later.

To be honest i don't think it's a good option but that's just my opinion.
