Dengie Feeds

Hi guys,

My Vet recommended me giving my shettie Dengie Hi Fi lite as a partial hay replacement.

Has anyone fed their horses Dengie feeds and if so, what are/were your verdicts on it?

My shettie has been on it for just under a week and he doesn't seem that impressed by it.

I used Dengie feeds for years and liked them, but my horse wasn't impressed either. I've recently changed to Allen and Page Fast Fibre which is also a hay replacer, is cheaper and my horse really likes it! Suitable for fatties/laminitics so should be fine for your shetland.

I've fed Alfa A for years and it's excellent. Hi fi Lite however is tasteless, basically chopped straw. Good for faties though.

I've been feeding Dengie fibres for the last 4 years... We use alfa A Oil in the winter and hifi lite in the summer. The boys don't like the hifi as much as the alfa a oil, but thats only because they'd rather have something fattening! They do eat it though.

Have you tried putting in some mint, or fenugreek to help it be a bit more tasty?

my boy loves his Dengie Healthy Hooves, which is not that unlike Hi-Fi Lite, but has extra bits in it for healthy feet. He really cannot get enough of it, which is unfortunate for him ! Highly recommend the stuff. sm x

I feed the Alfa A oil along with a mix ... mine aint that fond of it but i wont give him anything until he eats it im mean i no haha ... but he will eat it, it just takes an hour or so ... I like it as there is no added molasses (sp) and is just a chaffy form of conditioning cubes (as far as I no)

Jenhunt - I haven't really thought of making it more tasty. He will eat it if he's hungry, he just doesn't eat it with as much gusto as my mare.

Been using HiFi/HiFiLite for many years and they all eat it without question and lick the bowls spotlessly clean.
They are currently on Dengie Health Hooves, but only because I won it.

i have feed, alfa a oil, alfa a light, hifi orginal and hifi senior and i have been mostly impressed but i wasn't overly impressed with the alfa a oil as it didn't help keep the weight on. but i have never had a problem with them eating

I used to feed Dengie good doer. I feed Hi Fi Lite now as she has laminitis.

Sorted Good for his waist line and for your bank balance too. As you said, he'll eat it if he's hungry

I won't feed nothing but topspec. My fatties are on topspec lite and the tbs and problem horses are on topspec comp. All have topspec topchop lite mixed in and the laminitic pony has topchop lite as part hay replacer with garlic added to make it tastier and a handfull off mint and he can't eat it fast enough.

I feed Dengie healthy hoofs to my youngster, and when my other one was ill and wouldnt eat hay all she ate was hifi lite huge buckets full for a month until she started to eat hay again.

feed hifi, and have never had a problem with her eating it on its own, infact she gets a scoop of it on its own everytime she comes in before we ride and she always cleans up. Used to feed alpha but she came out in lumps after a fortnight... never did figure that out but just don't feed it due to this.

Why has your vet recommended your horse has a partial hay replacer? It is for lami or is he lacking in teeth?

I've used Hi Fi and Alfa A for years and highly recommend it. My guys love it.

I only feed Dengi hi fi lite. Think it's brilliant stuff! I feed a big scoop of it - fills her tummy and she scoffs it down as if its going out of fashion! Personally never had a problem with feeding it, and it allows her to still have alot of fibre and still shed the pounds

I have used alfa a, with sugar beet and a vit supplement on my two for years! one is a tb, prone to getting hyper, and the other hunts all winter happily on it, its good stuff!

He isn't lacking in any teeth! He made a point of that the other day when he gave me a good bite the swine.

It's for his lami.

In that case I'd recommend Topchop lite.

It's much lower in calories than hi fi lite/good doer/happy hoof.

I have used Dengie hifi original for years with added mix, but just received a free bag of Healthy Hooves horse loves it, licks the bucket clean, it has added biotin and garlic and looks to have cubes in it, saves buying extra mix, and is good for the fatties.
