I want to add something to my TB mares feed that will give her more oomph / sparkle but not increase the feeds volume.

I currently use about 100g of micronized linseed per day with 1kg (dry weight) speedibeet, vit / min and alfa a if she needs it. She has always been on a straight diet and I would rather not change to mix / cubes (just personal preference).

To give her a bit more sparkle would you increase the linseed to say 250g per day or add something like Dengie naked oats. I'm a bit apprehensive about the oats due to the starch content, at the moment she gets little starch if any at all.

Back, teeth, saddle are all ok. She works well but can be lazy given half a chance. Her temprement is naturally laid back, I know I cannot change that (I wouldn't want to) but I would like to pep her up a bit.

I feel like I'm doing their advertising as I keep recommending this - but Power & Performance worked wonders for one of our polo ponies. She is a very good doer and fab to play but lacked any sparkle or stamina. On P&P she didn't get silly but she was full of ooomph and power, totally changed her whole way of playing.

I wasn't aware linseed gave them sparkle other than a nice skin and coat plus improved hoof quality. It has no effect on anything I have fed it to in terms of upping the go factor.

Maybe ive been misinformed but doesn't oil provide slow release energy and if enough is fed it can also provide a bit of oomph?

ditto AA, linseed definitely doesn't seem to affect Frank's get up and go, he has had oats this summer- I think they've helped a bit.

Ideally I would like to stay away from the higher starch and avoid feed that is going to create more bulk. How much do you feed?

Rather than adding more feed, is there a supplement that could be recommended? or maybe Sugarbeet instead if Speedibeet?

Ooooh, your mare looks GORGEOUS OP. What a smasher!

Hmmm, TBH I'd tend to avoid oats, but think that goes right back to Pony Club days when it was drummed into us that oats and TB's (and ponies!) are a lethal sort of mix. OK so things have moved on a bit since then......... and the other old saying is that the "best whip is in the corn bin". Which it is!

Sorry, can't offer any advice as have never had a TB, am a cob-ite through and through, but couldn't leave this without saying what a lovely girl you've got there, you must be very proud of her.

the power and performance has peas.. along with wheatfeed and various soya derivatives.

Apparently in the US they are less worried about oats and think about barley the same way we do oats. With regards to them, none naked ones would take longer to digest/longer supply of energy.

yaffsimone- speedibeet is sugarbeet... just without the added molasses.

Try a small amount of Oats. tThey are a good source of fibre and don't deserve the bad rep, but they don't suit all horses. I use ERS Pellets too for my TB, don't give him any more 'Oomph' though!
