Has anyone used these? My horse is on a livery yard where all the horses are fed in a very similar way. They get turn out for most of the day and then either hay or haylage at night. They get 2 small feeds - morning and night of Spillers Happy Hoof. Now some of the horses on the yard do no exercise at all, mine gets ridden every day near enough, 30 -60 minutes schooling a day with possibly a hack at the weekend and usually a competition dressage or SJ on the Sunday.
In the last few months I've found she's simply running out of steam after about 20-30 minutes schooling. She's regularly checked by vet, physio, saddler etc and looks in fantastic condition. I asked the YM if she could add some thing to her feed to gee her up a bit and she has added half a scoop of cool mix to her feed. This is the only other feed that the yard provide. So far all it has done is made her gain weight! This she does not need! It has not added to her energy levels at all. This leads me back to the original question as my instructor suggested giving her a small handful of naked oats each day to give her a bit of a boost.
When I read the spiel on the website it said it was aimed at racehorses and horses competing a lot, which although my horse works more than some on the yard nowhere near as much as that! I'm now a bit worried it could be too heating. If I only feed a tiny amount will that have the desired effect or am I better off finding something more of a halfway house than this?
Any comments welcome.Thanks

I use these they are brilliant! I use exactly the suggested amount for my 15.1 cob in the showing season, and they give her the energy she needs without making her nuts. Normal oats have no effect at all.

It just made her a bit less sleepy, she certainly wasn't springing around like a loon!

Thanks, I have ordered some from feed suppliers and will start with just a small amount and build up to what ever the guide lines are and hope I get the same response as you.

I was having a similar problem and emailed baileys. I also can't really feed her more as she just gets fat. They suggested oats but said naked oats might be a bit too much so I got some rolled oats and it seems to have done the trick. Nice becos I can play with the amounts as I need.

I emailed Dengie about my cob and they suggested feeding a small amount of either naked oats or fibremix extra with hi-fi lite and optimum to give him a bit of energy. He's in about the same amount of work as yours.

You can literally just start with a handful, see how it goes. I think they're very good, and bought some for mine, but he wouldn't eat them!

V. fussy animal.

Adding oil is an alternative - slow release energy to help with stamina. Obviously adds weight though, which could be a problem for you.

Thanks to all the replies I've decide to give them a try and will let you know how I get on. I'm also going to clip her this weekend as I'm sure her winter coat isnt helping. Will see how it goes with a handful of oats and build up from there.
