Racing post online Denman to miss National

No great surprise really and the best decision too after his abysmal showing at Kempton on Saturday.
Personally I will still be very surprised to see him bounce back to win the Gold Cup this year and if he were my horse I would aim him for a lesser race at Aintree and concentrate on the Gold cup next season.
He didn't look right at any time on Saturday and people have remarked on his coat looking lighter on the Racing Post site. Some did say it was due to being clipped which would make some sense but for me personally he didn't look right at all. His coat looked patchy on his neck. He didn't impress me at all in his looks and lacked that 'presence' about him too.
Fair play to connections for letting the handicapper Phil Smith know as soon as possible so that he can adjust the weights for the Aintree marathon. Well done Nicholls and co for doing this. Some other trainers in a similar position may have iffed and arrghed over it for a few weeks and then pulled out the horse making a mockery of the handicap.
I really like Denman and Kauto Star equally although I did back the former to overturn his stablemate last year. I reckon the grey Neptune Collonges could well be worth a saver for the Cheltenham race especially as he belied his long odds last year to finish 3rd and complete the 1-2-3 for Nicholls.

I know what they mean about his colour. I saw him being saddled and the commentator saying this was the horse the whole country as looking at today, Denman. I thought he was talking a load of twaddle, didn't look anything like him!

Time will tell if he's A OK but much respect for PN for withdrawing the horse.
