Dennis Lynch off Irish showjumping team after bust-up

A great loss to the Irish team, much like Ellen Whitaker was to the British Team. It'll be even worse if he takes his talents to jump for Germany instead, although with so many world class jumpers getting on national teams will be difficult. Can't say I'd blame him though -he's been living there more than 10 years, and it gives him and his horses more opportunity to do what they love best.

Does it matter who Denis Lynch represents? Is the Nations cup a test of horse or rider?.Will the Arab States buy all the best horses and win all Nations cup competitions? No Irish rider rides an Irish bred horse

Well it's more than just the Nations Cup - there's WEG, the Olympics and so on too, all of which I'd consider a test of horse and rider as a team. It doesn't bother me the origin of the horse: I've never frowned upon any rider for having a contintentally-bred Selle Francais when they're Australian or a Hus Stud horse if they're French and so on. It'd be interesting though if countries did have to use domestically-bred horses though: it makes you wonder which countries would really fall off the map!

Shane Breen rides World Cruise and Royal Concorde, both Irish bred. Alexander Butler rides Will Wimble...Irish bred, Cian has Larkhill Cruiser and Arabella....Irish bred, he used to have Irish Independant Echo Beach...Irish Bred, Tholm Keane's younger horse and speed horse are both Irish bred. The continent based Irish riders mightn't ride alot of Irish horses but you can't say that no Irish rider rides an Irish bred horse. If anything they are back on the increase

My comments were made in the context of nations cup competition. How many Irish bred horses represented us in the nations cup last year
