Is there just Petlog in the UK or are there a number of databases?

Went onto the update address page as if Tink goes a-wandering she'll be packed off back to NI... entered the no/pin and it said it didn't recognise the number. :o

It was done by the Dogs Trust 10 years ago, and I was wondering whether that makes a difference? Or is Petlog a cover all database?

There are more than one....infact there are a few database companies.
If you can list the first few numbers, I can find out, although petlog certainly will always give the person scanning the correct company if it is not their own.

All passport issuers record the chip number and it is recorded on the NED database at no charge and horse can be looked up by their chip number.

I recently acquired an English Pointer for my mother. He was a rescue and had been handed to first a Greyhound rescue, they passed him on to a German Pointer rescue who realised he was an EP and passed him on to a woman who does EP fostering. I heard about him before he made it onto any books and it was only when he was taken by the fosterer to the vets to have a nasty wart removed from his eyelid was he scanned. He was chipped but it was not registered. I called one company who immediately said he was with a different company, they can tell by the first few numbers.
I found out that the number had been given out to another rescue two or three years ago but they hadn't registered it. This saves new owners the expense of having to change ownership. Obviously the person who originally rescued him never bothered.
