i recently had my mares teeth done about 2 weeks ago, he had to take alot off.

he really went at it, but since then she isnt eating as much horse hage as she usually would.
she is a scatty mare and if i get the vet she will need to be sedated. i would rather she wasnt really.

would she still be sore from the rasping? has anyone else had this before?

any advice is appreciated

Thanks

I'd phone the dentist and talk to him.....it may be warmer weather, doesn't need to eat as much etc etc. or he may have left a sharp edge somewhere??? talk to him - my dentist really appreciates feedback and they are the experts after all!

Good luck!

she might still be sore he may have gone a bit to low and broke through the enamel on the tooth and it be open so it may be un comfortable for her try her on a mushy food make it sloppy for her if she eats this with know problem but can not eat hard food then you know her teeth are hurting.

If the EDT took too much off the occlsal surface he may have slicked the teeth (removing the grinding surface) so the horse cannot chew properly. unfortunately there is nothing you can do about this until the teeth have grown and developed their grinding surface again. Sorry!

yeah he rasped alot off, more than any dentist has before, but she had some really big hooks in there. so im not sure

shes eating the hard feed ok, and grazing normally, its just the hage, and as she is getting older and losing weight more rapidly she needs the bulk from it.

if shes still not eating better in a week or so i will have to call the vet, i just really dont want her sedated

ya hay and haylage takes a lot more chewing than food that could be why she is showing discomfort whilst eating that what about just for a week or show swope your hay or haylage for a soft platable hay re placer see if that is btter and gives her time to re cover!
