Deposit and pre purchase vetting

At the beginning of the week I viewed a pony in Essex (I live in Midlands). Long story short, liked pony, thought suitable for my daughter. I put a £250 deposit to hold which I discussed with seller was to be refunded should said pony fail vetting. Got her to send a receipt via text message. End of the week travelled back again for the vetting, after only 10 mins into it vet stopped and strongly recommended that I didn’t purchase. Texted seller after we left as daughter was heartbroken, and asked for refund to be made. So far no message back and no refund made. I was again going to message one last time. What would I need to do next and am I right in requesting a refund?

If the deposit was “subject to vetting” then yes. Is it a private sale?

Give her 14 days to pay by a recorded delivery letter then raise a small claim online, easy and cheap, just the sort of thing small claims procedure is for.
