Can anyone tell me what the general rule is for the depth of a sand arena, please? I'm having some slightly different advice so far!

And should I only consider using a membrane that has been specifically designed for equestrian use?

Thanks.

I had sand and rubber for mine and was advised on 4" sand, 2" rubber. So 6" surface on top of membrane.
There's plenty of drainage stone underneath that, but not sure on depth of that, prob about 3-4" of that too?

As above-i think it's the norm to have approx 6" depth and then for the horse to be working over the top 4" if poss- if it's deeper than that there can be a risk of injury as the horse ends up working "through" the surface rather than "over" it. Deep surfaces are a pet hate of mine!

If you contact some of the various different surface/arena builder companies they should be able to help as well!

Thanks for that.
Also I have been told there is a very strong and porous membrane that a builder has. Should I not even consider this because it's not designed for equine use?
