Wow, if it goes that's the end of an era. Derby House was in business when I was horsey back in the 1970s (based at Parbold, as I remember, near where I rode) and is still around now I'm horsey again. :D

Of course, I was always horsey in my heart, just my body wouldn't let me.....

I'm surprised at that, I'd miss them, they had good rug deals and their own brand stuff was slightly better quality than Robinsons own brand :(

Nothing on companies house. They have shut all their retail shops other than the original Derby one so they could have done something with that part of the business to get rid of the shop leases.

Sadly the quality had gone down hill. I bought jods from them not long after they took over Olney and they were fab. I went back earlier this year and walked away with nothing even tho it was 2 pairs for the price of one. They didn't look like they would last 5 minutes. Everything else was the Katie Price range which wasn't my cup of tea.

No I understood it was just this week and refers to the flagship/main shop and online too but still trading...the others went back in the summer. Dunnomuch about Companies House but would that show anyway when not in receivership? Sooo depressing used to await that lovely catalogue dropping out of H&H in yrs gone by

The Parbold shop was lovely, although the staff were a bit hit and miss even then! It all went seriously downhill when they moved, but its easier to get to now I come from Manchester direction instead of Liverpool.

Been on the cards for a long time really......stock and quality gone majorly down hill in the last few years......no quality items there just there own......and I'm not sure whether Katie helped or not really!!!!!!! I certainly would not been seen dead in any of her things......but everyone is different....
Derby house for me was expensive but somewhere you could get good brands not c**P like Katie Price. Pikeur and Cavallo are more renound with Derby house....in the older days anyway...
I would not but anything you may want to take back that's for sure!!! Although I'm sure you could grab a bargain as if they are in admin and still trading they will be trying to recoop money.

I hope this isn't true :( I found that they were expensive but noted that the prices have gradually reduced over the last year and seemed reasonable.

I'm not surprised they were so bloody reluctant to let you have a catalogue.............
And the shops were always hit and miss.

The rugs were crappy too........

Loved the Derby hse stand at badminton in years gone by...also I produced many a Xmas & b'day list from their catalogue. Years ago they did quality brands, their own show jackets were good classics too & some reasonable leatherwork. Latterly a load of tat & plummeting customer service. Real shame.

I have noticed the website lacks products, when not so long ago it was full.

I've not got a bad word to say on their rugs cheap but do the job intended. I've got a heavy weight masta and a heavy weight dh which cost less and the dh is clearly a far better rug.

It's so sad to see our lovely country going this way.. whether its family run businesses or big companies that have been around for years, either way its just heart breaking :(

I know someone who works for Derby house.

I know they have appointed a new MD in the last year who has given the company a new direction- they intend to focus on the internet and mail order side of the business, the expansion into stores was ill thought out at best hence the recent closure of all but the wrightington store.

I also believe they have looked into the quality of their products with the aim to be the best.

I like them, far superior to robinsons, and i truly hope they continue in business for a long time to come....if i could give them any advice i''d say focus on quality, and sort out your delivery, get both of them right and you'll survive.

Sadly the only bussiness model that works is pile it high and sell lots with a small margin online or from cheap premises the other way is high quality low volume specialist stuff bigger margin with low overheads, huge shops with staff and big overheads is sadly the route to failure ....

It was more upsetting when it changed from Olney Saddlery to Derby House, now that was a crying shame.

Do you think so? My view is slightly coloured since I spent a small fortune on a saddle they fitted only to find out that it was incorrectly fitted! I also thought they were rather expensive compared to say Coleman Croft plus Coleman had the advantage at the time of doing 2nd hand. For the real cheapie stuff it was Catlips.
