Hello,

I bought a DH rug last year that's meant to be a heavy weight. It feels much more like a medium weight though. Someone on my yard tells me that's normal for DH?? Are they still as warm as other rugs?! Just concerned about leaving my ancient TB in it if it really is only like a medium.... she seems to feel warm under it, but hard to judge if she's as warm as she would be in her Weatherbeets heavyweights....

thanks

I bought two heavyweights a while back and have just sold them as one was too big and one was too small

One buyer asked questions about the weight which did get me thinking as the rug in question didnt feel as duvet-like as my other branded heavy rugs but I did call DH and get clarification on the weight which was 360g - the way I figure it is that they cant really lie about that sort of thing and so the filling must be dense rather than fluffy if that makes sense

So in short yes I would expect them to be as warm as a different rug the same weight

I think the materials that are being used nowdays are so much better and dont have to be so thick, thermobonded fleece lining etc. I felt that with the last rug i bought as it didnt feel heavy, but my horse is lovely and warm in it, means turnouts dry quicker too which is always a bonus. I dont think they could get away with misdescription trading standards would be on to them. I remember the old canvas style rugs with sheepskin lining that weighed a ton when wet and muddy and must have been horible to wear! They were basically square shaped too!

I've got a DH heavyweight and although it's lighter I think that's because of the outer denier 800 rather than 1200 that said it keeps her really warm and dry and does dry out nicely compared to others.

I ordered a 'heavyweight 300gram' off derby house a while ago, felt a lot lighter, looked on the inside and the label said 200 grams. Although it wasn't a heavyweight it's still a good rug, in fact my mare wore it today in the non stop rain, fits her perfect and she came in dry and warm!
