Nipped to Derby House yesterday to get some superflex, I know they've been really struggling for some time, but this was just sad.

The whole right hand side of the shop is now a toy shop (opens Monday!).

The farm shop is still there, all the horsey stuff is in the middle bit of the shop, I asked one of the assistants where the supplements where, and was told everything we had is in here..

I guess it will be closing very soon :(

I've been going to the Parbold DH since I was a child, and loved it back then, when they had all the high quality ranges...

Very sad..

Yes , I know what you mean . DH at Parbold was where I always went for all my kit . The Dicksons/Dickinsons (?) who had it were lovely people , coffee/tea was offered and homemade biccies ! And such great service and products . When they moved I stopped going , it just wasnt the same and I felt they were over stretched and you just didnt get the same personal service. Shame , but I think you're right , I can see them closing .

I commented some weeks back that the shop was not what it once was. I used to love the Parbold shop, a real Aladdin's cave.

That's right it was Polly and her husband, I know they sold it about a year or so before it moved. Their own brand range of show jackets where lovely, I've still got my black and navy pure wool jackets, with the foxhead buttons, the quality was excellent.

The coffee was nice too :-)

I'll be so gutted it they shut, have to pass it on the way to the yard, so it used to be so handy for picking things up en-route..

LOL I always used to say it was like the Tardis! couldn't believe how much stuff was there..

I know the shop had been getting run down, but was really shocked yesterday..

well there is 30% of ariat and mountian horse boots, but didn't see anything else.

The rugs looked a bit thin on the ground.

It was heartbreaking when the Olney one closed. So many happy hours spent in there as a child, mentally picking out all the things I'd buy for my very own horse when I finally got one. The only thing I ever got for Ned in there was red biscuit rings. :(

I asked if they were closing when I was in the other day. Store is closing and they are going to mail order only. The lady assured me they had loads of stock in for the winter.

their mail order service wants to improve a bit if they decide they're going to make their living out of that alone and if thats the plan, you'd think they'd put more effort into making it better- shocking reputation.

Are there any bargains to be had AW? Might be worth a visit if so, I need boots, chaps and rugs!

haha that's what I just thought! got my weatherbeeta light weights from there last month for £27, that's cheaper than some cheap brands! need a heavy weight, so might be worth keeping an eye on their offers! even if delivery is terrible, don't need them yet anyway! as long as they arrived before Nov haha!

I wouldn't hold your breath - ordered gloves last summer, took months to arrive! I'd ather pay more and know I am getting my stuff.

oh god that is bad! my weatherbeeta's arrived after 3 weeks, so I don't mind that as I don't nee them just yet! I did call them and have words on the Monday of the 3rd week! they said the rugs were due into them that Friday, so they'd ship straight away and as if by magic, they arrived at my house on the very same Friday they were due to receive them?!!

I've bought stuff from them via Amazon before and its arrived really quickly!!

This ....

I stopped using them when they took Katie Price on.

I heard this too! Just going to online stuff, shame as they've always been a bit rubbish with the online stuff.

I knew about the farm shop but didn't know they were turning part of it into a toy shop!

I was in fearn's farm shop the other day (excellent by the way local peeps) and the chap there said he thought there was a play centre moving in. My initial thought hurrah, on finding out it's a toy shop, hurroo!

I hadn't been there for well over 8 months + and went for a nosy the other day... Was totally shocked by how much it's changed for the worse! Barely any stock at all and loads of the shop has now gone. I left with a box of cereal of all things... I think it'll be closing down very soon by the looks of things. Which is sad because its a nice little trip out which Internet shopping can't replace :(

I have ordered from them online zillions of times and never, ever had a problem.

I remember when I was a kid into showing having a catlogue (didn't live near a shop) of all their own jackets and saddles and jods and wanting them all!

In the days before pretty ponies and mrs candy they were THE go to people for that sort of thing. I used to practically drool!

I've also used them loads of times over the years, mail order and then more recently online. They were the only mail order to do such a huge range of good quality stuff, staff have always been knowledgeable and helpful and I've never had a problem.

I have had one of my 2 for £25 items which took about 6 weeks to arrive. The other item was to follow and despite emailing to chase it I have heard nothing and it's over 2 months now. Suffice to say the missing item was the one I was really interested in and if it doesn't turn up soon I'm going to have to go shopping.......

DH did offer me a refund but I want my bargain item!

I ordered a bargain girth! Chased it and was told three weeks later that they didn't have it and weren't going to get it! They didn't contact me which was what really irritated me. I had to chase them. Coming from a mail order background if they carry on like this they won't survive!
Also something they don tell you is that all there leatherwork is imported. I asked if it was any good and was told by a member of there tele sales team that its ok if you really look after it very well. If not she said dont bother with it.....lol

Oakfield saddlery is still worth a trip if you can make the journey one junction further up the m6! DH have been on the out for a couple of years now - the farm shop and cafe are nice though!

Until I hear some kind of official statement from DH I will assume they are still open and trading instore. There has been hearsay and gossip for some time now and still the doors haven't shut yet!

I've not had any problems with the things I've bought from them on-line. However, I miss the old Parbold shop which was always a treat to visit.

Im another who remembers the parbold shop very well from my younger years. They only ever sold top quality stuff including their own showing items which were on a par with top quality brands like Jeffries, thermatex etc etc, nothing like the stock they carry today.

The derby house leatherwork they carry today is awful as are the rugs and I think the only good 'own brand' thing they carry is the breeches.

we had a branch open up locally in malton and it was such a shame as I think if done differently it could have been a real sucess.

Internet shopping has its advantages in lots of ways but there is nothing like having a good old trip to a tack shop.

They have lost custom due to rude staff, and bad customer service.

Kick the staff out and get more and improve the service and it might build up. Doubt it though.
