I'm considering buying a DH combo turnout rug and am wondering if they come up big or small. My horse measures in at 6'3" but a fair few of his rugs are 6'6"s even though he's only a little TB and doesn't take them out width wise. I think his Weatherbeetas are all 6'3"s and its probably the cheaper brand ones I've got that are the 6'6"s. Can anybody help me decide which size to order?

I bought a Derby House medium combo turnout last year in a 6'3" for my cob and it fits him fine. He takes a 6'3" in most rugs, including Weatherbeeta and Saxon, the only one I need to buy in a bigger size for him is Rhinegold. Hope this helps.

i have a couple (but i hate them, i think they cheap made BTW) but my 16h mare wears a 6'6 and they can be a tad large, just overhang her bum a tiny bit, her derby house ones are 6'3 and they fit perfect.

The back leg straps are made of cheap stretchy material which i dont like.

I have a derby house turn out for my mare, she can be either 6ft3 or 6ft6 but the DH 6ft6 was huge on her so we returned it and got the smaller size, that fits ok but lacks room on the shoulders.

It is ok for a cheapo rug i guess.

agree with speighty here in that they are pretty cheapy for how much they charge you! dont like the leg straps (so removed and used a fillet string) and the buckles are cheap and nasty- pretty flimsy feeling, and the holes are not the greatest.

i got a full neck rug for my foal last year (at the time 4'3) and it was MASSIVE!! but i made it fit. i have tried it on her now (she now measures 5') and it fits, with PLENTY of room to extend the chest!

i think they had sewn the wrong label on, and it is a 5'3 not a 4'3!!!

that aside, i would say they are slightly on the big and wide front.

Agree the leg straps are awful! they dont even do up round my horses legs! I have a few as they are cheap and i was desperate! My horse takes a 6'6 or 6'9 and he has to have 6'9 in Derbyhouse to get the chest room- However i did just buy the reduced l/w combo and even in 6'9 its too small round the chest.
If you can afford better i would buy better but if you want cheap and cheerful and dont mind turning a leg strap into a fillet string they are ok! for a TB id go normal size

Thanks for the replies, sounds like quality is an issue then! It would in effect be a free rug as I've got a gift voucher that can only be spent on their own brand stuff, and I can't see much on the own brand range that I want at the minute.

Ive got a MW with neck which was around £25 in the sale which hes worn for about 5weeks and its fine, also bought a HW neck combo for the same price a few months as a spare rug really, as it cost me £30 to have his decent rug repaired!! For the money there fine. He's normally a 6ft i do find it slightly small on the shoulder area as he is filing out at the moment hes a 16hh KWPN and still growing. Like i said for the money i would deffinatly buy again would agree with the others R.e leg straps, but this is easily solved but taking them off, or using decent leg straps.

Robinsons have a rug sale online today try get a better brand on sale from there :-) derby house fleeces are fab but turnouts are terrible, sizes are very generous though.

I have to say, I quite like their rugs but i wouldnt pay full price for one (I buy them when they are in the sale).
Pluses are- Their necks of their combo rugs are actually long for once unline weatherbeeta/ amigo so keep the horse cosy warm!
Fit all mine pretty well. I just bought the size they are anyway and it fits well.
I have to say I quite like the stretchy leg straps but maybe im werid......

Negatives- the holes on the buckles are a bit flimsy
the clips on one of our turnouts fell off first time we used them but we used the buckles instead so its all fine.

In particular the fly rugs are well worth the money! Ours has been brilliant :)

So yeh, I much much prefere them to weatherbeeta who I feel are complete waste of money.
