I had this text message through from Derbyshire horsewatch last night, thought it would be a good idea to share with you -

This text is being passed round by Derbyshire Horse watch. There have been 3 sightings of 2 suspicious men with eastern european accents photographing local horses. This could be a steal to order gang. The men have been seen at local shows, events and even in a horse owners field taking pics. They have been seen in a white van reg can be PM'd and a red land cruiser. Police are treating this as very suspicious so please contact them urgently if you see anything. Please pass on this message.

This is going round as email and texts. Although I have not yet checked fully, I believe it is a hoax 'chain' email / text designed to clog up the network / cost you money sending texts. Worth being aware though, but pass it on by word of mouth only.

Our stables has had a call from the local police about this one. We were told two eastern european men in red Land Cruiser been seen taking photos for horses in fields possibly with view to steal.

Eerm whilst I agree it is best that everyone is on there guard I am thinking it a bit strange that every area has had this text, including me. So a friend (horsey) that is a high ranking police officer checked out the reg plate. It belongs to a car that was crushed some time ago. So, either it is a hoax, or if not a hoax pay no attention to the reg plate. (it could be changed daily) just can not understand why others that have been warned by officials (with the very best intentions) have not checked out the reg plate. Interesting

It is most certainly not a hoax - was even mentioned by the commentator several times over the tannoy yesterday at prestwold.

That does not guarantee anything! The point I am making is so far these people have been reported as in opposite ends of the Country on a daily basis which is damn near impossible. I can not work out why no other official body has not done a police check on the number plate either. I agree everyone needs to be on their guard as always.

Sisters YO rang our local police yesterday (Cleveland police) so North East England - and they said not a hoax, its genuine. The texts were flying around here on Monday evening.

Mind you, I guess anything that puts you on your guard on the run up to Appleby is a good thing...

Im from hertfordshire, and the texts have been round here too,
not only that but 2 horses have gone missing down here and the day before the two men where seen taking pictures in the horses feilds in ST.Albans.

x

they are deffinatly operating down here in hertfordshire,
my friend's daughters where out on a hack when the men jumped out, asking about the ponies, taking photos, asking where they are kept and so on.
girls are only 12 & 6, and all they could think to do was gallop off!
the men where then later that night caught on the CCTV camras, in the feilds looking at the horses, taking pictures again and having a genral look round the yard.

police have been informed, but is there that much that can be done?
