My Beagle X has very bad dermatis , which often leads to cysts , mainly in his front paw , but also under tail & under muzzle .

Tried all sorts of tablets & shampoos from the vets , but to no avail .

Anyone got any bright ideas , please ?

Change of diet, full allergy workup, aloe vera gel to remove heat/itchyness?

How long has it been going on and what age is he?
Those are all sweaty areas for dogs. Is the shampoo Malaseb? I found it worked quite well for us.

Does he worry at the areas? They are all quite sweaty areas for a dog.

He's 2 & has had the problem since we got him . Shampoo is the one you mentioned . Yes , he worries away at the areas - especially after he's been getting warm ( sleeping on his blanket )

I had excema as a child & it was always when I got warm in bed .

Will try the shampoo again & thanks for your help - much apreciated .

He's on Butcher's tripe mix dog food - he used to be sick after other brands .

Ditch the canned food would be the only helpful suggestion I could make. Try feeding raw or good additive free dry food.

Agree with Temsik!

Also try to tire him out on walks and try to walk him somewhere with fresh water so that he can cool off when he is sweaty, my dog is prone to skin infections but he is much less likely to worry at himself when he is knackered, if he is bored he will start working away at himself.

Agree with above, I think raw would be the best due to the severity of the symptoms, but don't expect an immediate fix, raw will help with steady improvement and as he is young it should improve fairly quickly.

Having always had rescue dogs, I change them straight onto raw, I have found that it depends on the dog and the "quality" of the processed food they have been fed on, how long they have been unfortunate enough to be fed it for and even how many generations it has been fed for! My sisters GSD puppy has shown signs of detox and she got her at 7 weeks old, having been fed some raw mince with the dreaded biscuit, so must have been affected by her mother being fed processed.

I have had rescues that have taken several years before the toxins from the cr*p food have fully worked their way out of the dog's system, but you should see a continuous improvement. Others I have had work through it very quickly. One dog I had seemed to get skin irritation when she had been in fresh water, but not salt. I got her at about 18mts but by the time she was 3 it was gone entirely.

Thanks for help - will be trying all of them . He did respond to tablets from vets , but it was short-lived & the only ones that worked made him pee without warning !

All my dogs have been rescue ones , but any ailments went quickly . I've had Ted since he was 7 months old & he was a bag of nerves , due to previous ill-treatment . He is so confident now which is great to see
