end of my tether.

I have desperately been trying to find a loan pony for a client. I have put wanted ads, I have searched the internet. There is a message on the pony club board, I have stuck a notice on the board at the local show centre.

I am completely stuck as his parents will only loan or loan for 6 months with view to buy.

I am completely stuck on what to do. I spoke to his mum and buying outright is a definite no go – which is annoying because they have the cash!! They have had two terrible experiences with buying at their old yard, resulting in hospital trips etc and lost confidence and whilst they claim to trust me, they simply do not trust the sellers.

I have tried and tried but they wont budge! Its a blinking nightmare. Any ideas of best course of action?

Hi there, not sure where you are or what you are looking for but i know someone with a lovely pony that they are looking to sell, don't know if they would consider LWVTB or how much they want for him?

My friend has a 12.3hh 2nd pony (can do anything but especially good at dressage, fab mover, full brother was multi champion, Grand daughter of Oakly Bubbling Spring) which she would consider loan with view to buy. Think she is 8 years old, nothing wrong with her their daughter has just hopelessly outgrown her.

6 months though seems unreasonable, as some (not saying they are) unscrupulous people would loan over the summer, have their fun then return when autumn comes to avoid winter costs. Surely they can find out in a max of 2 months if the pony is suitable, then if not it gives the owner chance to find another loanee /buyer.

If you trade in horses (an assumption based on calling them clients ;) :) ) maybe you could purchase a horse you think is suitable, and LWVTB to them? If it doesn't work out I'm sure you could find a new home?

I understand that they may have had some bad experiences but i think you have to explain to them they are being unrealistic. You couldnt loan for 6 months with a view to buy a car, house or dog, so why a horse?

Why dont they look at potential ponies to buy and thoroughly try them?- see them in all situations and visit 10 times if necessary. If they are genuine buyers and honest from the start then some sellers wont mind- especially if they want the best home for their pony.

Either that or they are going to have to be more patient and wait for the right loan pony to come up.

Trust me, I have tried. I call them "clients" as he is a livery. One option is to buy and sell but why should I buy/sell anything when childs parents will not stick their hands in their pockets? GAH!

Sprout - anything 14.2hh-16hh that will hack, go to the odd PC rally, and jump a 2"6 course. Age/sex/colour does not matter. Would be an added advantage if it could live out but not an issue if not as will turn my youngster out to live in the pony paddock.

Thats it! And I am having a right old nightmare :D

Where are you and what sort of pony are you looking for?

try the Society for the Welfare of Horses and Ponies www.swhp.co.uk

A little known small rescue charity near Monmouth on the Welsh Borders - I was there the other day and they have some cracking children's ponies all looking for an adoptive home

One good thing is, if it doesn't work out for any reason or the pony is outgrown, they can have the pony back, unlike most loan homes

I fell in love with the most fabulous 4 yr old 16hh coloured gelding but my OH said we have too many already!!
