Hi I'm new to this forum, I've browsed before but never posted anything so thought I would as this forum seems to be very helpful!!!

I am currently based in Royston and am looking for livery for my small mare. She is a very good doer and is also very quiet and is currently living out with another mare in foal and a yearling gelding, neither whom she has a problem with!

I am currently renting a field with two other people which is great but it's about 20 miles away from my house which is proving so much in petrol to be travelling every day!

I am looking for preferably DIY grazing (proving to be very difficult in this area). I know about all the big riding establishments in the area as I've lived here for many years and worked at most of them so was wondering if anyone knows of anything a bit more low key, such as a field off blahblah road in blahblah village that no one knows about/can't see from the road etc that people rent out.

I've been offered a field for £10 a week about 5 minutes from my house but my pony will be on her own and I'm not sure I want to be left on my own riding for safety reasons... If I were to fall they'd be no one to help, meanwhile pony could run into the road and get hit by a car!! Or if I was to take ill, they'd be no one that could help me out with the water. Plus it's awful riding out on your own all the time!!!

I am looking for somewhere with other ponies for company and preferably people to hack with. I don't need a fancy yard or a school and I would be willing to pay for a field and stable if it came as part of the package, if it meant that I could have her out 24/7 and just have the stable collecting dust. Please no suggestions of full or part livery as I can't afford it and my pony can't live in due to medical reasons (COPD)/legs filling, unless somewhere will allow me to keep her on rubber matting without any bedding as a vet has suggested but given livery yard's OCD nature about things I doubt this would be allowed without someone deeming me cruel...

Thanks for all constructive suggestions, I have tried all the main ones as I have said... Anywhere within about 5 miles of Royston or "on the way" to Cambridge as I reguarly commute to Cambridge City. (South Cambridgeshire would be ideal). I can see this forum is very helpful so I look forward to your replies... :)

Thanks, Emily.

Sorry, can't really help as not near you, but have you tried posting on your fb area? Quite a few places crop up on there or you could place a wanted ad

Good luck :) oh and welcome to the forum x

Is North Hertfordshire say Buntingford/Sandon too far away from Royston? If not why not put up a 'Wanted' notice in Cecil Sale (Sandon). (Only down the A507 and turn left)

Thanks :) I have done ! I live fairly near there and am always checking their noticeboards and asking at the till but have had no luck!!!! I know most if not alll of the tack shops round here :) I've searched everywhere and have been knocking on houses with fields nearby and asking at local farm shops too!!! No luck!! All the fields I've been offered mean that she will be the only horse there (no other animals either) and have already posted round the Facebook groups multiple times and no one wants to share with me !!! It's annoying!!!!

I've seen your posts on facebook haha, no luck yet then :-(

Maybe you could advertise a space in the local field for a pony to join you? I often think with these things there may be someone on a livery yard who would take such a chance to save money, like if they had the same problems as you

BUMP please :)
No I haven't :( It's a bit in the other direction but still doable! I never know how to go about asking/investigating who owns the field etc. There are many horses close by in fields or yards but I feel hellishly rude just walking on to property that's not mine, and whenever I drive passed there doesn't seem to be anyone there! I feel like leaving a note on the gate but I'm worried that may be deemed suspicious behaviour, and I know I wouldn't like to think of people nosing round my field when I wasn't there... I'd probably think they were eyeing up my horses to steal or something!!! And I would not like to be labelled like that lol. Not sure what to do, people must be renting the fields round here!! Even if they own them, they must be willing to have a livery or know someone else that will!!! :)

Have you looked around Barkway/Barley? There seem to be a few shared fields round there

I also live in Royston but my horse is in Whittlesford. 22 yr old Clydesdale gelding. DIY livery.
The farmer who owns the yard has been making us keep them in....I think since Xmas they have prob only been allowed out for 14 days. - This is getting VERY expensive in straw, haylage and feed costs. Not only for me, but the others too. Lots of people at our yard worried about colic etc.
Today - brilliant sunshine, frost, ground frozen - not allowed out. Its ridiculous.
Seriously fed up - he is too far away from me also - petrol is soooo expensive.
I would be up for going in with you on a field or something but it would have to have a shelter.
I work in Cambridge so also on the way would be good.

We are just outside Royston Nr Cecil Sales and Sandon Saddlery we have DIY livery available but like everywhere its only 24/7 turnout in the summer months - despite having 20 acres for 12 horses it just doesnt hold up with the weather as it is! We did restrict winter turnout in the grotty months to 4/5 days a week and to be honest they dont want to be out after an hours leg stretch anyway!
