Feeling bleugh after a 'bad' schooling session with my gitl today, think it's worse as I can't pinpoint why or where it started to go wrong.
Took her to a neighbouring yard to use their arena as ours is very deep atm and it screws up her knees/joints etc. Was very excited at first so just walked her around encouraging her to tak ethe contact dwona d away as we do at home & competitions, took longer than usual. When I asked her to move up to trot, she just wasn't going forward like she usually does and went back in to pony mode as opposed to nice long strides.... Kept her on a long rein and moved up to canter, moving with in the paces, but again, not getting usual response. Thought it would get better as she loosened up - I was wrong. It all got worse!!! Pony hollowed, setting neck and generally evading in every way she could think off, whilst shedding her bodyweight in sweat and breathing hard. I called it a day after 30 mins (inc warm up) and 'cooled down' on a long rein for 10 mins.
Don't really know what is up withher as has been differnt in herself for past couple weeks, waiting for the farrier ro come out this week so hoping we can rule out foot pain (had bad laminitis couple years ago & is shod accordingly), and she's having a back session tomor night (carniosacral), and have contacted the saddler to come out and review saddle as had a 'new' one fitted 3 months ago. If all this fails, I will be calling vet, even if just for a meds check as she is on Metformin for IR/EMS (Wondered if the heat today affected her meds?)
Bit of a pointless post really, but just feeling really despondant as pony has been coming on so well esp as we've just started at Novice level and doing well, but all of a sudden we seem to have come up against a huge brick wall and its all falling down as she is so out of character at the moment and I don't know why.
Sorry to bore any of you who read this!
