I have three turnout rugs with detachable neck covers. I hate the design of the neck covers on the newest 2 rugs. There is a nasty metal fastening just on the withers, and there is often a gap between the rug and the cover (poor horse will get a draught!)

My old, original rug has a much better design and has never had a gap. The neck cover fastens with two clips, one on either side of the rug in the shoulder area, so nothing nasty to roll on and no gap between rug and cover. This rug was made by a firm in South Wales, but I don't know if they are still in business, as it was bought before the avalanche of rugs made in China. Trouble is, the horse has slightly grown out of it as he had it when he was 4 and although I have waterproofed it, it doesn't keep heavy rain out.

I just wish the newer rugs were better designed.

I really like my amigo heavyweight if that helps? Does have 3 metal attachements but they are flat with velcro. They have extra material for where the "gap" would be so she stays snug and dry. She lives out 24/7 and has been in it for well over a month now!

Disagree my amigo and neck attachement certainly do leak in the gap between the rug and neck you often see the gap too when the wind blows.
My bucas on the otherhand join remains totally dry even in the heaviest of wind and downpours

i have one as I have a funny shaped pony and the combo necks just do not fit him well and he can get too hot even though he is clipped and I can vary the weight of the neck covers so he can have a LW neck with a MW body etc.

however they are expensive and i find it hard to find them - my rug has the D rings so needs a rug cover with clips and lots of the covers are velcro or zip now.
