Devastated, advice appreciated

In the title you asked for some advice.

I dont suppose you will agree but you need to keep your head down.

This morning you were devastated at the thought of being chucked off.

You haven't, be happy for the time being and look for somewhere else which is suitable.

Texting other liveries talking about moving and telling sharers they are "horrible cows" is quite likely to get back to the yard owner.

You wont like it if he wants to speak to you again tomorrow.

I'm not saying you are wrong in any of this, just keep your head down and make your own arrangement without telling anyone else. Seems like everything said on this yard is twisted and reported back.

Good advice. Tell who you want what you want when you've given notice and got your backside covered!

Sorry, wasn't clear. I am being thrown off or no way would I have told the sharer anything. I was given a month's notice which for the YO, is unheard of and about 29 days longer than he normally gives. Given the YO regularly calls everyone the c word, I doubt he cares a whit about me telling the sharer that she's a cow. I think that's quite mild, actually.

The other livery I text is one of my best friends. She has been talking about moving for months. I was persuading her to stay until today.

Look on the bright side, its forced your hand to do something, its more been a convenience than a happy set up by the sound of it.
Dont allow yourself to be drawn in to a bitching or slanging session with any of them, tbh it sounds like a psychological cess pit, and you'll be well shot of it.
Good luck, i hope you find a great place :D

Thank you. :) I will not be standing round gossiping, believe me. I will do my horse and scarper. Will be busy looking at yards this week as it's half term. :)

Seconded. Sounds like a toxic place to be. Good luck with the move, OP :)

When we were desperately looking for a new yard (admittedly a long time ago) we drove round the area where we wanted to be and just stopped at places with stables to ask if they had any spaces. We weren't bothered whether they were recognised livery yards or not.
Good luck with finding somewhere.

This thread has reminded me why I hate livery yards. I've been a customer many years ago, and when I got my 15 box yard I had 5 of my own so had liveries in the rest. After about a year I'd more
than had enough. Never again!
I now have 7 of my own, a dear friend has 2 and we have brood mares in for foaling and youngsters for show training.
So having seen it from both sides, livery yards are an absolute nightmare to me.
Sorry, no help to you OP. Good luck.

Sounds like your YO has done you a favour - sounds like the yard from hell to me. Move and you will wonder why you atayed for more than 5 mins.

Where abouts in Herts are you - may be able to give you some recommendations

Generally I like the livery yard where Basil is, it's big enough that you can be annoyed with people but avoid them til it passes, and equally you can avoid those that you've annoyed. We all annoy each other at times don't we? I understand that you're upset now, but trust me, when you find your yard and move on it will be such a relief to you.

I live in Watford, work in Bushey. I would prefer assisted DIY. I know tons of yards round here, so the less obvious would be good. A yard that is flexible about early visits would be fab. :) Radlett and Aldenham would be good.

No contract, it's the most relaxed yard ever. I didn't flame the YO or anyone else.

I have a feeling they want rid of me for various reasons (someone there deals and wants all the boxes, really dislikes me and would ideally like shot of all the liveries, the YO loves this person :(). The only thing I mentioned was if it turns back into an RS, the YO's rates will shoot up, but he knows this, obviously.

There are trouble makers on the yard who merrily trip off to the YO and will make up rumours/pass on gossip. It's a very unusual situation there and as liveries, we are always treading on eggshells but otherwise, I really love being there and the horse is very happy.

doesnt sound very relaxed to me!!

Your YO should be proffessional & should not involve themselves in silly gossip no matter what they overhear. I wouldnt want to have somebody this unprofressional in charge of my horse!

Elsazzo raises a good point, Gosh if my YO got in the midst of every argument on the yard he'd never have time to do anything else. He says what he thinks, likes a good moan as much as the rest of us, but doesn't get that involved in yard arguments. Thank God.

I got fed up of livery yard and got my own.place again. Livery was a hunt and polo yard. Good facilities and not many liveries but the hunt grooms were always stirring trouble!!

Love having own small yard again, although it more work. Fortunately neighbours are great too, especially wen naughty ponios jump into their field cos their friend r in the yard and they r on there own 50meters away.... Yes Bella!!! X

My thanks to all of you who advised and supported. I'm off to view a yard in an hour. A friend who wants to share my horse is there. There are regular big shows on the yard. There are spare boxes! It's DIY with help as needed. An indoor school is being built, the hacking is amazing, no roads. It's the same price as my current yard. It's further away, but ticks so many boxes that I hadn't even thought of!

I'm also being interviewed tomorrow for another yard, but I think today's yard is the one. I visited when my friend moved there and dismissed it as a bit quiet and a bit far, but for the horse, it's ideal.

My current yard has new horses all the time as someone deals there and he comes in with bites regularly, which worries me and the lack of quarantine really worries me. There are way too many horses there for the acreage and the fields are a quagmire.

I'm still really upset, particularly as I found out who lied to the YO: she refuses to make things right because she's scared for her position there. However, this is best for my horse's welfare and my feelings really need to be secondary. :)

That all sounds much better than your current yard, it seems that this person that lied to the YO has done you a huge favour and it will be a blessing in disguise. (You could always go and thank her for her dishonesty at a later date and tell her how it has been the best move for you.) ;)

If your YO hates this person so much that they are willing to get rid of clients who talk to them then why doesn't he get rid of the offending livery?

Good luck OP and tbh where I have to tread on eggshells I would rather be off a yard than on it.
I am also not keen on dealing yards either especially when new horses are coming and going regularly and there is little or no quarantine.
Sometimes the yards that seem the closest are not the best which I have found out lol.
Personally I think both you and your horse will be better for the move.

She was also given notice at the same time.

The potential new stable is twice the size! There is a worming programme! There is a yard manager! She says she is appy to do mornings for me, handy as it's in the opposite direction to work. I'm pretty ecstatic!

My current YO told a close friend of mine exactly who told him what to make him give me notice. A very nasty lie, but it's clearly for the best and there's now a waiting list of 7 current liveries for my box. They can wait til my notice period is gone! ooh, and the mounting block made to measure for me will be coming out of the school and into my car!

I cannot believe there is a waiting list for your stable. I would be in no rush to be on that yard lol. In fact by the picture you have painted I would be peeing myself in excitement to get off it!
