Devil has been riding my horse!!

My mare has been coming in everyday with her 2 bits of her mane all twisted up. My OH dad said to me this morning the devil's been riding your horse so iasked him why & he said that her mane was all twisted because of him holding on. It was very bizzare!! He said when he used to have his horses for ploughing years ago that the devil used to ride his horse then (think he's lost the plot). My mare had a real long mane but i pulled it this morning. Then OH dad said that should stop that devil riding her, you better keep an eye on the gelding. He has a long mane but his mane dont get twisted. Has anyone ever heard of your horses mane being twisted meaning that the devil has been riding your horse?

either she is itching it or her field mate is grooming her - mine went like that and then eventually went all together

Yeh i thought it was quite funny when he said it. you can see her field from the living room & she went cantering by earlier & he said to me there she goes again with the devil! No wonder she's tired when i want her to do some hard work!!

yes,big herd of coloured cobs live near us and devil rides them.also called witches knots.
2 of mine are hogged so they ok,and shetlland would bite his ass of if he tried!!lol.
(does he school em or just gallop about?)

If Chancer's mane is left unbagged a whole host of devils ride him - his mane is like that top to bottom.

They really shouldn't - he is only just three.

Usually galloping around & the occasional Rearing show. She's not a fan of schooling. Hope he dont start riding my 2 yr old & teach him bad habits

My dad used to call them witches knots also. It comes from an old superstition that witches would "borrow" horses and ride them to their sabbats. They would tie knots in the horses manes and tails to hang on. Here's a link that explains the superstition.
