What do people think about these 2 saddles? Have decided to buy a new dressage saddle and am choosing between a devoucoux or an albion. I have been lucky to have tried both and do like both of them. so just wondered if anyone has had experiences, good or bad about them. thanks

I personally like Devoucoux but agree it is what fits your horse best. The devoucoux will cost you considerably more than the albion but they do tend to sell well secondhand and hold their value.

Someone told me the devoucouxs have a crappy girthing system in that the girth straps just come from the botton of the flap and don't do the horse's back much good. if you want a monoflap, the amerigo vega monoflap dressage saddle is lovely. they have the y girthing system so stay in place very well and are less bulky than an albion and are calfskin lined. and a bit cheaper than the pinerolo!

of the 2, for the sake of your horse's back, and based upon what various back people have told me, i'd say the albion.

Interesting - a couple of saddlers have told me that they've had more problems with sorting out albion-created crises than just about anything else (of the decent range of saddles)

E (who is also saddle hunting. Again)

If your looking at Devoucoux then maybe you should look at Butet, slightly cheaper - about £2200 but seem to have alot more fittings than devoucoux.

Eceni, i agree that Albions went through a really really rubbish stage as far as horse's backs were concerned (i had 4 at the time, had them all reflocked and smoothed out inside by my saddler - the standard of workmanship was shocking tbh, rough edges etc), then sold the lot of them. i've been told that they've pulled their socks up a bit now.
tbh of the two, neither of which is a great choice as far as horse's backs are concerned (according to my chiro), i went for the one which might do the least damage...

I would go with what suits your horses shape and conformation and what gives the best fit. Then what suits you best and what you prefer and (also the back up after sales service ie if you need the saddle to be checked or flocked).

I've ridden in the Devoucoux Makila Dressage saddle when I was looking and it was a lovely saddle however I decided on an Amerigo as it fitted my horse well and my saddler could adjust it etc.

IMO Albions and Devoucoux are 2 totally different saddles!

As someone mentioned previously the Devoucoux do hold their price really well., good luck with the saddle that you choose!.
