Haven't posted in here for a while. Lots going on and didn't really have much to say tbh!!
What are your thoughts on Dexs recent behaviour. He will be 4 in January and has always slept in the bedroom in his basket. On Sunday I was watching TV in bed and he joined me..........twice!! He was kicked off immediately.
Last night, or 5am actually, he joined hubby on his side of the bed. 47 kilos of rotty is not easy to miss. He didn't want to get off either. Very strange don't you think?

Hello :)

He's tried to climb on your bed three times since Sunday and you've put him straight back down again - probably just fancied a change of scenery, wants to be where you are, you're doing the right thing by not letting him stay (If that's what you want) so keep doing what you're doing and don't sweat it :)

CC he is definitely not welcome! We have a nice big bed but will not be sharing it with Dexter. This morning he just curled up next to G who was quite surprised to put it mildly. :D I'm putting it down to the colder weather, he seems to have decided the basket is not good enough for him suddenly.
I may take a leaf out of your book and kennel him outside......see how he likes them bananas. :p

Aaw poor lad just wants a cuddle! Can't offer any suggestions as to why he has started doing this, but hopefully he will get the message if you keep booting him off. When you were watching the tv there weren't any strange noises on there that could have either worried him or made him feel he had to protect you, probably a daft idea but best I can offer.:p

Snort!!

He wants a nice giant dog bed - why put up with his when he sees you two in your bed :) you are doing the right thing.

I've been super soft and let mine come in bed with me for the past month - its going to take a while to undo that!

He actually has a choice of 2 large and comfy, snuggly beds as I still can't bring myself to move Mattys' bed.
As for sharing with him...well he's huuuge. And then Sage would muscle in on the act. G and I would end up in the baskets...and that ain't gonna happen!! :D

I have always found no matter what I give my dogs, they always want what I have! :)
And yes its one thing me and my two jack russells, completely anothet with a rot!

We have a special 8 foot wide bed so we can accommodate the GSD, BUT he only comes up when invited and leaves as soon as he is asked to. I think you were right to ask him to get off as he was deciding to take over your space all by himself. I'd keep at it and not allow him to stay, unless you decide this is an acceptable behaviour and develop a cue to ask him to jump up.

Jeez Booboos an 8 foot bed:eek: that is massive!! :D
SU Ya got that right. As if my dogs (and cats and horses for that matter) don't live in enough luxury as it is. G always complains that they are looked after better than him. Hmmmm I think he may have a point.

I also jsut think he is looking for some extra cushioning:D aslong as he gets off when told or shoved with no argument just keep telling him to hop it.
My rotti rarely gets on a bed or settee unless invited, but when she has been invited she snuggles right in.
I had the biggest shock of my life once when I found my akita curled up on the settee:eek: she has never been one for jumpinh on anything and likes to live out in sub zero temperatures, so to find her on the chair was really funny, she got down when she clapped eyes on me:D

The GSD alone weighs 45kgs and then we have the Spitzes and the JRT who takes all the duvet to accommodate! :D It ain't simple going to bed in my house, you need to fight for your space! :D
