Went to rug up Dex on Sunday and noticed bumps. Thought the flies had munched him but it was too even over his body. OH had a look and reminded me we had similar with Jacob last year after he rolled in (newly emerged spring)nettles. We had the vet to Jacob but he didnt do anything and it settled on its own within 24 hours.
Dex was uncomfortable having them touched but ok in himself so as it was chilly,i put on a light rainsheet and left him out to help reduce swelling. Yesterday, he didnt seem so sore and the bumps have flattened, i phoned the vet and as he was coming this morning anyway, we decided to leave him. So vet came this morning and is positive it is the nettles. Dex has had 2 jabs- one was antihistamine. Vet said to keep him out, ideally without a rug on and be prepared to lose some of the bumpy skin if he develops an infection...said it will look like rainscald
My poor beloved Dexter
any suggestions as to what i can do to help him appreciated...have fenced off the nettles and OH will spray at the weekend..vet doesnt want to give antibiotics unless necessary..
