diabolical to mount WWYD

Nothing at all. She was sold in Kent but put back to dealers and lady tried physio. Physio said nothing wrong. Subsequently sold to my friend who five stage vetted with ace vet, nothing wrong. My pro in the borders got somebody whose name escapes me but apparently best there is who said....nothing wrong. IMO, she is tight behind the saddle though

My mounting issues were a little different, so not relevant to this post - but this made me prick my ears up a bit. My lad had a thorough going over by a physio to see if there was a physical reason for his behaviour when mounted, and she gave him a clean bill of health - back - wise. I have since discovered that he has sacroiliac problems, which are probably responsible for his PSD, and possibly the mounting problems (although I think that the mounting problem is more trusting new rider related, as he did it twice when I first got him, then never again)

Whilst I absolutely believe that physio is important, they can't spot everything . Some issues need veterinary input to identify.

Have you tried using a stool, or similar so that it is free-standing and the horse can move 360 degrees round it? This is what I did with my naughty TB. I stood on the stool and led him up to it to stand. If there way any funny business then I just stayed stood on the stool and asked him to keep walking around it. Asked him to stand again and got on, again if he was naughty he just was asked to walk on again around the stool. The first few times he did quite a lot of walking around in small circles and I did not do much getting on but very quickly he got bored of this and decided he would just stand still straight away. Now he very rarely does anything other than walk straight up to it and stand while I get on. This includes at competitions where he would have been a complete nightmare previously.

Sort of successful with the suggestions.

Tried last night but horse covered in sweat when I arrived anyway (not sure what wound her up) and very windy conditions. As she was a total **** in hand I decided to lunge instead which was pretty full up in itself. Felt like a bit of a failure so got up at 4.30am this morning, wind dropped.

Did the positive reinforcement (every time she stood still for me I got off block and rewarded) etc. Only one cow kick and then stood quite sweetly. Repeated 5 times and then I rode and then repeated twice very easily.

Onwards and upwards I hope

It could well be your mounting technique that is the problem.

How do you get on now? How did the pro do it? Even if the pro could get on from the ground this may be because they had good technique (or weigh less) and did it without pulling the saddle.

What happens if you get a leg up?
What happens if you get on from a block without putting your foot in the stirrup? This is the best way to get on in terms of preserving your horse's back.
What happens if you have someone hold the opposite side stirrup while you get on?
What happens if someone vaults on?

It could also be to do with your riding or the saddle once you are on - i.e. it might not be mounting that she has an issue with, it might be that she has learnt that if she can stop you from getting on then something else doesn't happen.
