I know these haven't been made for a while, but if I was to buy a 1999 version does anyone know if they are any good for towing (need to tow 3t) and are they reliable and can you get parts for them easily?

Thanks

I've had 2 previously and very good for towing tho boot space a bit crap if taking loads of gear with you. Mitsubishi bought them out so have no idea about spares etc. Pretty heavy on fuel as well but then that goes with owning a 4x4.

For such a small 4x4 they are brill. We've had 2 only selling our last one as the dog couldnt get in and out of the back as they are only 2 door and theres not much room. My hubby never had any problems getting parts, not that anything ever really went wrong. Check the boot area for rust as thats one of the places they go.
They can tow 3.5t.

Yes you can find spares easily - there is a whole forum dedicated to them (difflock forum).

Our is currently having welding & MOT done - we wouldn't be without it. Nothing else out there tows anything like the weight a Fourtrak can. Worth their weight in gold! :D

Bullet Proof no frills motor Daihatsu was bought by Toyota not Mitsubishi who then stopped production of the Larger 4X4 and allowed Daihatsu to build smaller noddy wagons. I had a N reg SWB Fieldman as a Co Vehicle 200K Miles1 Clutch and Syncro on 2-3 gear replaced under warranty at 48K then used by other site Agents and on the Fish farm, at 7 years old vehicle earnt its purchase price back on hire on the Channel tunnel Rail link as a site vehicle I cannot rate them High Enoughly, the vehicle was sold engine un touched with 350K miles.

We had two before our box, the first one was stolen or we'd still have it! They are wanted for parts by thieves so please get it well alarmed and immobilised! Mum still runs the second one as her normal car. Great for off-road jobs around the place.

Great to tow with, but I do agree about the space, if we travelled two it was a struggle getting the saddles out, but thats all part of the fun. For the money they are a great motor, only other one I could advise to look at is a Izusu trooper, but they are more money. The split rear doors on the trooper are better to get stuff out of in the boot, and more room in the rear for passengers if you have the 5 door version,

All in all, we found the Fourtrak an extremely safe and powerful motor.

I listened to advice on here and bought a fourtrak - hated it!!
It was a 99 plate with full service history and low mileage. The body looked great but the floor was completely rotton, took lots of welding to pass MOT.
Garage found parts completely impossible to get - I had to scour net and order them and garage would phone to say wrong parts when they eventually arrived.
VERY slow, extremely thirsty ie £10 got me about 36 miles!!!
Great for towing but not much else.
If you've found a good one for god's sake drive it first for a good bit and get it checked by mechanic. I could'nt live with the noise and lamentable top speed - forget about overtaking if you want to use it everyday.

I think they were good in their time but things have moved on now- you can pick up a good 2001 plate 2.7TDI Nissan Terrano for about £2000, it will still tow 3 ton and drives and handles much better with modern safety airbags ect.

We had one for towing our trailer and it was great. Unfortunately my OH skidded on the ice in January and wrote it off. We now have a Discovery and although it's bigger with more space we preferred the Fourtrak for towing.
