I had my lessons with BD trainer last weekend, and she always comments on how much she dislikes my browbands (one pink, one blue, both from Pink Equine). This time she went on to add that dressage judges would look unfavourably at them and said it created a bad impression! Anyone any thoughts on this?

I think she is letting her personal opinion get in the way ! Surely the judge is more interested in the way the horse is going - hope so anyway

If the judge judges you and your horse on your browband then dressage is even worse than I thought it was!

Surely it shows you are making an effort?? Plaits are a bit ridiculous if you think about it - so I don't see what difference a diamante browband make! A bit like wearing nice earrings!

Look at the rules. I bet it isn't allowed under Pony Club.

Sounds like a bit of "old school" to me. I think they are rather nice. I wish my horse could still fit into his patent leather brow band and matching cavesson, but it is now too small.

So what, I like mine, it's not over the top as prefer to do things in moderation, am not a slave to fashion and don't really give a sh**e.

TBH am peed off with being told what to wear, mate of mine says have got to wear white breeches, why? I look like Vanessa Feltz in white. If you like pink diamante, have pink diamante and remind trainer you are paying for training, not fashion advice!

Note to self: Don't drink too much wine whilst on forum as now feeling very outspoken, sorry, slinks off to get more wine!

my daughter bought her pony a lovely diamante browband and everyone says how nice it is
I dont think my 11 year old is worried about it being "last year" or not in or even wrong??!! She loves him and at 11 you like eveything pretty and flashy!

She was told at her last ODE that she and her pony were the smartest turned out

That made her day

Well I've previously asked a top dressage guroo and an eventer from round my way (neither of them connected) and they both said definately no fancy sparkly browbands in the dressage arena as it is against BD rules and it isn't correct so I just use a plain traditional leather one.

Show Jumping..that's a different story!!

[/ QUOTE ] Incorrect. There is no ruling barring diamante browbands.

There is a ruling against tassles and extra bits dangling down - but if the decoration lies within the "normal configuration" of the bridle, that's OK.

Whether some of the more extreme examples are either "correct" or even tasteful is an entirely different debate!
