My mare has a loose tooth which is to be pulled next week.
She also has diastemata and so has to have the gaps of the offending teeth widened.
We have had to wait a couple of weeks as the appropriate equipment has been away for repair so it has given me plenty of time to get wound up about it.

I am not quite sure what to expect. If anyone has a horse that has had this procedure done, did it take long to recover and how long did you have to administer pain relief? Any information would be appreciated and will be rewarded with a glass of baileys and green and blacks chocolate :D

thanks.

Hi,
A horse that I was sharing but mow loaning had this done about 6 weeks ago, he was totally fine after it, we gave him soaked fibre cubes in a bucket instead of haylage for a few days and then softer haylage but tbh I think he would have coped eating the haylage straight away. He really wasn't bothered by the process. His teeth havnt bothered him since (he had been off his food and his mouth stank before) so I assume all is well although I'm not about to brave sticking my hands in without a gag :D
He had some danilon in his feed for a week afterwards, he had it done around 11am and was bright and happy when I saw him at 7pm that night.

My mare needs this done regularly but never seems up nor down. Once I saw the mess in her mouth I knew it was worth it, her gums were black from years of food trapping. She is lightly sedated and recovers within a few days.

Oh really, thanks. I was having an image of her being in pain for days. Not so worried now. thanks folks. Meant also to ask, how long does it take, roughly, not sure how many need done. x
