Interesting programme on Radio 4's Great Lives yesterday looks into author and jockey Dick Francis's life. I hadn't realised he was jockey of Queen Mum's horse, Devon Loch, that did that iconic splits fall just as they were about to win the Grand National or that he was a WW2 pilot. Worth a listen on iplayer. Also investigates how much his wife was responsible for writing the books. He's sold 60million worldwide! I am jealous of those royalties.

He is my favourite author. Him and his wife used to do all the research together for his books which is why he stopped writing when he lost her. He did write a couple more with his son Merrick towards the end of his life which were great. He was a truly incredible man and I miss my xmas book that was read before the end of boxing day because I couldnt put it down.
