Hiya,

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, should possibly be in Career and Ed b ut not sure and more people will view it here!

We have an Equine Team but obviously not everyone is able to participate in this. I am thinking of maybe suggesting starting up a equine society. How does yours work?

I am thinking that we might not be able to ride every week as we can only use the college horses if they are free. So was thinking we'd do demos and trips and also maybe some time up the stud playing with the youngstock up there.

Yes -

I am currently at Hull uni. We have a riding which runs weekly riding lessons and socials. We also have a team but that is only 4 people so the riding club is great. We are even going on the uni's Spanish sports tour!

Our lessons are at Bishop Burton and cost us £14.50 for an hours group lesson. (normally 4 people per group, max 8)

The only thing I would want to improve is having more horsey events without riding. Bishop hosts some great things, like talks from famous riders and other such stuff which I would have loved to go to but didn't due to lack of company.

We have a horse riding society at my Uni: it meets every week for a pub social, and also ride at a local RS weekly. For a set fee, they have the arena for the period of time and along with that can hire school horses for those not lucky enough to have horses at uni with them on livery. There's a sign up fee for the club, plus a fee for each lesson. They have a RI signed up who comes to the yard they hire for their rented lesson: the yard's happy to have them, as they have all the fees of a normal lesson, but they're own instructor is free to get on with yard duties for the time instead!

They also take part in university-level competitions over the mainland UK (BUSA or something like that it is), though you can only do that if you have your own horse, and it's only SJ competitions as far as I know.

I have to say, they're not known for being an inviting bunch however.

Yup I'm at Edinburgh uni and we have an awesome Riding Club. We have weekly lessons on a Wednesday, plus 4 teams competing, and we train at SNEC, very competitive! We get training from Andrew Hamilton as well - bonus!!

Yup we have the riding club and team (at essex uni) that are run together and also a polo club that is run seperatly.

In the riding club people can sign up and ride every wednesday at set times for begginer, intermediate and advanced at a nearby stables, and then we have an A and a B team, but we ride at a different stables.

We never have any proper socials which is shame, and also would be nice to go to some horsey events together, but our president is trying to get more funding and more people to join for next year and expand it a little so hopefully they'll do some socials and other horsey events :p

sadly i am of an age when you didnt go to uni *** cough cough yes im aged lol*** but my daughter is equestrian team captain at hers - the team is of good size they have weekly lessons compete inter uni and loads of socal evenings to - she loves it :)

Have any of you in riding clubs considered submitting teams for the endurance team event?

It would especially be good for anyone using a riding school horse, as they are fit working several hours a day, & may not be the best at dressage or jumping. There are qualifiers around the country, then the final held at The College ride. This page has the rules download.

Can be sure of warm welcome, endurance is the most friendly equine sport & you don't have to have an arab!
