Didn't go to see Sidney - and a decision

I have been deep in thought about it over the last day, since the car issue put a spanner in my works I have been wondering wether its fate lending a hand. I can't get to see Sidney without someone lending me a car and now that doesn't look like its going to happen (don't get me started on the woman!) and during that time Josh and I talked about the terriers and how they'd fare if Sidney turned once I'd gone back to work etc and I just set up worrying about them really.

Decided with the fact i have current dogs it would be more prudent that I get a pup so that I can be sure how it turns out.

The good news is John told me Sidney has plenty of people interested, so will hopefully get himself a forever home soon and wont be in rescue for long.

Its a shame, but for some really I have a weird feeling that fate stepped in yesterday....

Meh, hope Sid gets a great home.

Am a wee bit sad of course but I can understand your concerns, this litter seems to have been planned responsibly and of course, Dad is a very nice sable who works, so of course I would approve :p

It just seemed a huge gamble for a dog so far away, if anything happened I'd be faced with a similar predicament on how to get him back. I think it was just too far to be feasible for an unknown dog. :( had he been closer I think we'd already have him by now :/

I emailed Nikonis for some info on Dave, and also asking them if THEY had any knowledge of pup or teenage dog requiring a home - we'll see if they come up with anything.

Also spoke at length with Merjuke, I really get a good vibe from them, they asked me LOADS of questions - hours of work, what I intended to do with the dog, was I taking him to classes, what I wanted from him etc etc they then explained about the bitch and what she'd acheived and her nature and also explained their deposit scheme and warned me if they didn't like me - they'd be sending me home!! :D which is always (oddly) a VERY good thing to hear, they aren't throwing these pups at anyone - they are trying to ensure a lifetime home for them - which made me feel good about buying a pup.

I got a very positive impression from them, they were mostly geared towards finding out about me, and the sale of the pups is secondmost to them, which really does bode well. Too many breeders don't care who comes to buy their pups, so long as they are sold!

Should have looked on here before I replied to your pm! They do seem very responsible breeders, only thing I can't work out, if you are having pup in September has she been mated before hip scoring, or are the just working on September as a rough date for her to whelp?

Yeah, the pending bit is pending me finding out, rather than them -as you rightly say there's no indication on the site. I hope its a good score as I really like her.

Ah right. You can find a dogs hip score by going to the KC website and typing in its registered name, I think its under Health Tests or something similar.

I cant find her on there, but it does say you need to know the name to the letter, have sent an email double checking anyway. What is a hip and elbow score you wouldnt go over?

Well I am new to elbow scores Evie is the first I have had done, but I would say 0 and 1 are probably best for breeding. Re hips, other factors are involved but I personally would set 15 as a limit, sometimes however one hip can be a lot higher than other as a result of an injury, and as long as parents and grandparents had good scores then I might consider breeding. I would be more wary of a low scoring dog with several high scores in pedigree.

Sounds like fate has intervened in the Sid Saga :p Can totally sympathise though - could you imagine the state you'd be in if you were worrying about the Terrierists the whole time, you'd be a wreck!

Could potential-puppy-mum be Merjuke's Hope? I know nowt about GSDs but that seems familiar for some reason! She's a pretty girl :D

Yes, Merjukes Hope is the bitch, to Nikonis Dave.

I had heard about him through CC I was really excited when she said "Dave" could be Nikonis Dave.

Once I have had an answer to Hope's scores, I will put down my deposit for a pup and then save up til September - might even spend that time going to a few local shows if I can and getting some hands on experience.

The worry would have been too much for me, only today a big dog snapped at Lil while out walking and she was very scared and subdued, I just couldnt take on a potential lose cannon and have it upsetting them. I took great pains to bring up two gentle and friendly JRTs, I decided I owe it to them to find them a perfect brother.

Being as its a pup I can't see anything going wrong and I should be able to pick my pup pretty early on, but yeah it would be a bummer to get that far and find out I didn't like any of them (but I can't see that happening! :D)

Blimey, Yorkshire certainly is a long way, how did you find them? I would go up beforehand to meet the bitch and other dogs the breeders have, in fact I would imagine they would want you to do that, as they are obviously keen for their pups to go to the right homes.

Is it acceptable to go see the bitch when she's up the duff? :p I was just wondering what with my dogs etc if it was acceptable to do that - as I was going to ask them just the same thing, but then remembered UnaB's story about germs and thought it might not be a good idea!

I always find the ones far away MM :D, it always seems to be the same with me, but I don't mind the travel as the dog seems highly rated and from what they have told me about the bitch she sounds ideal.

It is young pups in the nest that are vulnerable, the bitch should be fine. You will get a better idea of her temperament, bitches often become a little sharper when they have a litter of pups, it doesn't usually last long, but if you go and see her beforehand you should see the true temperament.
I know what you mean about travelling for the right dog, our Lancashire Heeler came from Wiltshire, it would have been far nearer to go to the county they originated from but I wanted a particular line hence the long hike. And we went 3 times, once before bitch whelped, once when pups were about 4 weeks old and then to collect her.

Oh and just to add, I saw the litter on epups, it had the longest blarg I had ever seen, and I started reading it and then started reading the website (which is like information overload) and then I realised the dog was a goodun and then I found I really liked the bitch and then I enquired about the littler - they rang me and I really liked the way they "question timed" me and now here we are :D

*breeeeath!*

Your geography is failing you again CC, Rhian is in N Wales, a long way from Kitty (tho nearer than Yorks):D. She had Buffys dad, agree though about the other 2, if only for help with training etc.
