I know it is bad (eeer and against the rules) but if I was to treat the kids at the yard next week and take them to the beach, how much is a fair price to ask for diesel? They would be riding my ponies, so it is not like I am doing a box job..

It is a 100 mile round trip and would involve me leaving the yard at about 6am!

atleast 50p per mile - as this covers not only fuel but wear and tear on your vehicle.

50p a mile is what covers things for my wagon.

Depends how many you can take if it is 3 then i wouldnt say £20 per horse is out of the question.

Running a lorry is an expensive business, as all us owners know & I think that 50p per mile is insufficient. If you are running a 7.5 ton lorry you should get around 16 mpg, that's roughly what my DAF does. With fuel at £1.20 a litre or £5.40 a gallon it will cost you around 35p per mile just to cover diesel & that's forgetting general wear & tear, oil, tyres etc etc.

It's up to you to work out if you just want to cover costs or actually earn a little for your trouble but at 50p per mile you will cover fuel & have about £15 for your time......? :)
