So Mickey is going onto a course of GastroGuard (just waiting for it to arrive tomorrow),

His current diet is (twice a day):

x2 mugs Fast Fibre
x1 Stubbs scoop Dengie Alfa-A Oil (was 'Healthy Tummy' but they ran out at my feed merchants so got this instead)
x1/2 mug micronised linseed
x1 (little) scoop Feedmark Ulcercalm

Ordinarily he's turned out 24/7 with haylage put out morning, afternoon & evening, although currently he's on box rest, so getting 3 haylage nets (morning/afternoon/evening) and a large bucket of the Alfa-A Oil twice a day in addition to his feeds.

He's been on box rest for a few days and with the snow recently, it has become aparent that he does have ulcers, Vet is in agreement and we are putting him on GG.

Now diet wise through the GG treatment and beyond, what would you do - continue his feed as is? or tweak/amend slightly, I was thinking about dropping the ulcercalm in exchange for something like Yea Sacc or brewers yeast? I will also be adding 'Lifeforce' to his diet as soon as i get round to ordering some!

he is a 16hh, 9 year old Thoroughbred, who has good weight, but not great condition/topline due to lack of work, he's not particularly fizzy, but wouldnt want to be adding anything to pep him up. - any advice gratefully received

You could try adding Pro Hoof?

It has glutamine (like your Feedmark stuff) and yea-sacc, plus copper, zinc and magnesium for general health and lysine and methionine for protein synthesis.

The linseed you feed also contains methionine too.

Is Lifeforce the stuff that's really high in manganese?

Just a thought - check the PH level of you haylage - if it is too high this could be a factor. Any stressy types (I dont know about your boy apart from that he is a TB) I tend to give good quality hay rather than haylage. Is his poop ok?

Also I fully recommend Aloe Vera Juice for ulcers, it has had great results :)

Is pro-hoof the one from the ebay shop? I dont have the lifeforce packaging to hand at the mo so not sure on the manganses content off the top of my head...

We dont have much in the way of hay at our yard at the moment - shortages in the area and high costs, the haylage is very good quality though. obviously as we go into summer and we move onto the summer grazing, the haylage will likely be cut out completely. However for next winter, I may see if i can buy in my own hay.
