Good morning,

The little shetland x Welsh we have loaned for the winter has suffered from lami most of its life,

I had his feet x-rayed and the rotation wasnt as bad as we first thought, so when the farrier re-visited we managed to vastly change the shape of his feet (he had really long toes and too much sole growth)

The farrier has done a fantastic job and his feet look amazing, luckily he hasnt been sore at all which I expected him too after such a major trim.

But, I do want to try and strengthen what is already there, currently he is on a bare paddock during the week days with hay in the morning, he spends the rest of the day foraging around for bits of grass he can find. Stabled overnight with hay, a small feed of fastfibre and a handfull of Hi fi molasses free.
weekends he gets turnout on restricted grazing but grass as appose to mud for about three hours, a lovely half a mile each way there and back walk on tarmac which he is sound on.

is there anything else I can put in his feed which is safe for him to encourage good strong growth?

many thanks in advance

mag ox and feed whole rosehips as trreats as they contain biotin. Plenty of exercise too as this will encourage the hoof to grow.

My 3 year old ISH had terrible flat feet and she got foot sore a lot. I then stared feeding her farriers formula. My farrier is amazed now her feet have grown are no longer soft and shape has improved. She is no longer foot sore :D:D It is expensive but worth it.

Pro Hoof

Also get him out walking in hand, or ride and lead, long line etc as they need work to stimulate them to grow.

Lami however is a metabolic condition so this is an internal issue. Magnesium is a must, which pro hoof has the highest does of compared to other supps, as is keeping him sugar free - off grass would probably be best.

I have never failed to see major improvements when using FF.
