Hi,

Sorry completely naiive here, springer spaniel has been to "visit" a rather smart male english springer a few times now and hoping shes pregnant... anyway, keeping fingers crossed and hoping she is, whats the best diet for her?

Also, how much do puppies go for (Would be selling in May time I think?)... it would be a small springer (both mum and dad are!), well bred for working as the bitch has alot of field trial champions in her bloodlines (shes a housty kennel dog(?)) and has worked very well in the past... and the dog is apareantly very highly thought of and again a field trial champion, both very well natured and marked... sorry just clueless about it all, Mum used to breed cocker spaniels but that was years ago!

Exactly the same as she's on now assuming she's being fed a good quality complete dog food or RAW. Don't increase anything until the last couple of weeks as being overweight does not help with whelping. Once she has whelped, feed ad-lib.

Worries me a little that you say you're clueless... Perhaps read 'The book of the bitch'.

We usually feed our bitches a bit more in the last 2 weeks, but usually split it into smaller feeds.

We also put them onto puppy food once they have welped as it is higher in protein so will help keep the weight on especially if its a big litter. We also feed the bitch goats milk too to help boost her calcium levels to aid her in milk production!

As for price it would depend on if the pups will be KC reg or not. I would check the going price on Epupz. But as a guide we paid £200 for a springer x Lab and didn't see many pure bred working springers for under £300 and they were non KC ones!

Please go buy as many books as you can find on pregnant bitches, whelping and puppies. What to feed the bitch may be the least of your problems... it's best to be over prepared in my opinion

Go onto a good quality puppy food three weeks before whelping, and then wean the pups onto the same food, don't go down the weetabix and milk route as this can cause scouring. I think the going rate has dropped to about £150 around here.
