Hi everyone.

Thanks to everyone who helped with my last post. Ive decided to give horse a chance up until the end of this summer to improve. I am attacking all of his problems one by one in the hope he becomes managable, as I really do like him! Vet is coming out again next week to do more cushings and blood tests.
So someone suggested it may be his diet that is a major problem with him and its on my to do list to try and get him in good condtion.

At the moment he is on nothing but Happy hoof (a handful) and hay. Grazing is poor in winter, good in summer.
He is laminetic, a good doer, pretty overweight in some areas and not in others and in poor condition (as in poor coat quality, no muscle etc) He also is spooky, nervous and has problems with seperation anxiety.

As a result of these problems I need a feed or combination of foods that will:
- Not cause him to have lami attacks or put on weight at all.
- Improve his coat shine, muscle tone and general body condition.
- Not cause him to fizz up, infact a feed that has a calming effect would be a massive bonus.
- Preferably something with garlic in or that I can add garlic too as he suffers from fly allergies and someone said it might help.
- Preferably something that will aid digestion as he is very stressy and I would like to prevent colic/ulcers.
- Must not cost the earth!
So im not asking much then

I have thought of a couple of options which may work and have thought about adding either balieys low cal or pink powder to his happy hoof to make a complete feed.
Does anyone have any experience of either of these products?
Did they improve general body condition and did they have any other benefits/drawbacks?
How do you find them on value for money, about how much a month do you spend on them?
Does pink powder cause weight gain?

Or if anyone else has some suggestions of a feed/suppliment that will help a horse with these problems I would be very grateful

Thanks again.

A tough one. First of all tho, Baileys low cal and pink powder are 2 different things...

Personally I would keep up with a low cal chaff and a non cereal, fibre diet with perhaps a supplement to help improve the coat / digestion etc.

EG - and only going on products I have used / had experience of.

Alfa lite
Top Spec anti lam (if your horse is a good doer then you wont be feeding much anyway)
Pink powder - temp measure to settle your horses gut flora as it is a pre and pro biotic

As with all things horse *roll eyes*

do it slowly and monitor the changes.

I must add that he gets VERY little grass all year round. He is on a track round the outside of the paddock which is worn down to very little. Some horses/ponies just cannot cope with any amount of grass. Your horse may just be one of them. The track system enables them to exercise while searching for nibbles. I use soaked hay all year round. Its a palava but it keeps him sound and happy.
