Difference between eggbutt and a hanging cheek

Is there much of one? Does the hanging cheek just further stabilise the bit in the mouth?

Looking to get rising 4yo a Myler comfort snaffle as he had taken to chewing on his happy mouth (teeth done, wolf teeth removed) and I he definitely prefers a stable contact.

Recommendations?

a hanging cheek applies poll pressure. Obviously all bits can be severe in the wrong hands but I think myler comfort snaffles are quite rigid xx

Thanks. He definitely likes a rigid, stable bit and has a fleshy tongue so I think a Myler will be a good shout- can always sell on if not. Tbh I'd hoped to keep him in happy mouths but it'll cost too much to keep replacing chewed ones!

A hanging cheek is more stable in the mouth

I like the myler comfort snaffle I and use them a lot but it depend a on the horse and it's way of going .
Hanging cheeks lift the bit slightly in the mouth when the rein is used and reduce the tongue pressure I don't like them with a traditional joint but use them on some horses with a lozenge or myler mouth piece
The myler comfort snaffle has a very thin mouthpiece it's quite a jump from happy mouth .

I bought my youngster a happy mouth loose ring for her first bit and she hated it, now in a sweet iron hanging cheek with a copper lozenge which she much prefers, some horses seem to prefer less movement.

My older Appy goes best in a myler pelham, have used the comfort snaffle, but I think I would prefer, as would she a myler comfort hanging cheek, because of the stabilty.

I've got the full cheek comfort snaffle for one of mine, she is very fussy and doesn't like movement or any size of mouthpiece and this seems to be doing the trick. She has been in it nearly 12 months now. Hanging cheek was going to be my next try if this hadn't suited her.
