Hey, i thought i'd post this in the hunting section as my horsee is snaffle mouthed except when hunting. He is currently hunted in an american gag, and although he goes alright in it i don't think it's right.

He has a habit of pushing his head at the floor when he doesn't want to stop, and is also still extremely strong in the gag.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any bits that helped to encourage there head up rather than down (i.e not a lot of poll pressure!) and is still strong enough to stop him?

He is a brilliant hunter and is great fun, iit would just be reassuring to know i could stop him without hassle if i needed to!

A cheltenham gag with running cheeks has a head lifting action & does offer good breaks.
Plus you can use it with 2 reins so that you are on snaffle mainly but have the 'extra' when you require it & then back off again when you don't.

i have a polo gag thing... with a drop nose bands... works wonders for my horse who otherwise gallops flat out all over the place with his head on the ground....
its a double reined one with string cheek pieces.. no idea what the real name of it is... but its awesome!!!
except makes my horses head v. itchy as quite a bit of leather etc. but hes like that anyway!
ps.. its kinda like a cheltenham gag... but not quite!!
