I want to make some home made treats for totey and nutmeg tonight. I've seen lots of recipes on here but most of them include molasses but I haven't got any. I've brought home some chaff and carrots and have got other non horse food things in the cuboard. So does any one have any nice horsey biscuit recipes for me to try? Thanks

ToteTheTurkey, forgive me, but horses aren't really known to bake in the wild(!) so if you have all the constituant bits could you not just save yourself the bother and feed them as they are? Horsies will probably be just as happy...

Oh, and Holland and Barratt or bigger supermarket should have 'human' molasses if you really want to try some of the recipes...

*guilty lazy feeling me*

My daughter wanted to make horse treats for her pony for Christmas and we had limited ingredients in the house.

We found this recipe:

Whynnie's Wonderful Yumyums

1cup flour
1/2 cup mollases
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1cup sugar
Any extra treats such as apple/oats/carrots/pepperments crushed/grated
Preheat oven for 350 degrees F. First, mix sugar, flour, and crushed/grated goods. Then add liquid goods. Stir until well blended. The mix should be sticky, but not too runny. If it is too runny, add flour, if it is to thick, add a little more mollasses and oil. Cook for 10-15 min. Apply more time if it's neccessary. they should be crunchy when you are done, let cool in fridge.

We used syrup instead of mollasses and our added extras were a few stale cornflakes and some crushed extra strong mints! We made ours a bit too runny but they still tasted OK! Very sweet though, so should be fed in on a very restricted basis.
