My mare, loves to be out in the field (like most horses), but always seems to play games with me. She has always been like this, apart from a few times where she comes in after five or ten minutes or decides she wants to be caught straight away.

Say I'll go up to the yard at 3.00 in the afternoon and go to the field to bring her in. She'll hear me, look up and as soon as I get 20 metres near her, she'll walk/trot or canter away down the field. Sometimes she'll turn this into a buck and a gallop disturbing the other horses in the field. Although if my sister or mum goes to catch her, she'll let them catch her.

This is only in the day time and is quite happy to come in when it's dark.

I'll follow her around, with her walking away, ears pricked. She doesn't seem threatening towards me but is defensive as i'll be behind her (a safe distance away) and she'll turn to the left and then to the right and so will I, then runs out of field and gallops away. Sometimes I'll stop and see if she gets bored and comes towards me to check if it's a game...

I turn around and she's looking at me ears pricked, then notices I have turned around and she'll walk away.

The other day though I did the first bit of gridwork and jumping with her (this is because the ground has been boggy and I have no arena. It took me 45 minuets to bring her in). The next day I walked up to her and she didn't move an inch and happily let me put the head collar on. We did some more gridwork that day, so I'm thinking she refuses to come in because she gets bored of hacking or doing the same thing?

Does anyone else have any ideas on what's going on? :)

Cheers.
