Difficult to handle her back legs - is it pain related?

When I first got my horse she was quite good to do her feet and the farrier even shod her by himself when I was late, but in recent weeks she has gone very very sour towards having her hooves picked o and her legs touched.

It's actually very unnerving because I can brush her tail and her thighs/stifle areas but as soon as I brush her actual lower legs or hocks she moves or worse she lifts her leg as Jon she's being tickled by a fly.

And then if I actually go to get her hoof and pick them out she lifts it up and slams it down as though warning me or cow kicks and then turns her bum towards me, it's real "I'm warning you!" behaviour.

It's totally uncharacteristic of her because she's such a sweetheart normally and very gentle and loving, her front feet aren't so bad, she wriggles and shakes but it's still possible to hold her leg and do her feet.

We felt along her back and she didn't show any signs of discomfort there, and she's working very well when ridden in fact she's improving every day, so I can't help wondering if it's more of superficial issue eg. sensitive skin or an irritation. She does have very delicate skin (she's a thoroughbred but never raced) and did have bad skin over the winter....

Any suggestions of what might be causing her upset?
It's not her being naughty because you can see she can't decide if she's scared or angry...
