Does this work?

My gateway to the field is just slush! Its not mud, its really really wet and sucks your boots off. We are on a hill and it starts to level off where the gate is. If I dig all the mud/water out, will it make much different or will it just cone straight back?

Sorry if this is a ridiculous idea!

Sorry but while it might get better for a while it'll soon be back to mud soup, infact as there will be a dip where you dig out water will sit there and soup will return more quickly!

Any chance you can dig it out and fill it in with something like limestone or road plannings? Over a membrane to stop the mud coming back up?

I swept the mud today. Took a couple of hours and my shoulders and arms are now complaining :). Used an old yard brush and brushed it away from the path. Actually hit some hard stuff about 3 inches down(mixture of stones and gravel). Will do somemore tomorrow. I'm trying to get a gradient from the field gate down past the yard gate (yard is in the field) so that any water will flow away. Suppose it depends on what you find under the mud, might be worth trying to divert anyway water runoff away from where you walk.
