Hi all

Please could someone tell me exactly where I should check for a digital pulse? Pictures would be great if anyone can fathom how to show me it via pics!
We have a little old shetland mare who's been a bit on the pottery side for a few days. She has arthiritis & we put the doddering down to a change in the weather but I want to be 100% sure it's not lami.
I've tried to feel all over her fetlock area for digital pulse & can't feel anything, also there's no heat in her feet etc. She's not standing off her feet but occasionally she'll shift her weight a bit but with her arthritis (in her knees) that could be just making herself a bit more comfy & taking weight off her knees a bit.
Her teeth aren't what they once were so I'm not sure how much grass intake she could actually manage anyway...
I didn't know if she'd been laying down but yesterday morning her rug had a bit of mud/dirt on it so she's either laying down to sleep or rolling...
Droppings all normal...
Thanks all

Also, we think she has onset of Cushings - she never really loses her coat like the rest do.
I don't know if this could have anything to do with anything but thought I'd better mention it...
She's never really seemed to have any issues before with anything that I've read as being Cushings related...

I would recommend a vet visit just to determine for sure whether she has cushings/lami as they often go hand in hand and need treating asap...

you will find the pulse if she has on just put you hand around her fetlock just above feather use your two fingers in that area until you find it you could also have a cushings test done? What feed is she on at the moment? is she on or off the grass?

Thanks everyone, I'll have another go this eve!

We haven't had a cushings test done, she doesn't show any of the signs other than growing/keeping more coat. She does moult in summer just doesn't go as sleek as the others!

She's currently on Equilibrium Senior with hi-fibre cubes & a joint supplement and devils claw. She has about half a stubbs scoop of each feed per day & is on grass 24/7. She shares a paddock with my big lad (16.2hh ID x WB) who can be a porker so I do try to keep a close eye on them both!

We have farrier coming Friday so I'll ask him about the lameness & see if he can see anything. If there's nothing obvious then I suppose it'll be a visit from the vet...I always worry that they'll tell us the worst tho at her age...
