My friends horse has just gone lame - jumped him yesterday and stumbled but not too bad - not lame after session - he is lame this am and has digital pulse - anyone know what an increased digital pulse means? She thinks either laminitus or sprain would you get digital pulse with these? Sorry to be thick, but she is concerned. Thankies

lammi, stone bruise things like that.

a lot of people think a raised pulse can only be lammi but its any trauma to the foot that can cause it

Stronger digital artery pulse just means that more blood is flowing to the foot (means inflammation or injury).
Commonly associated with laminitis, but also abscesses in foot, the pulse is not usually as strong with sprain...but it depends on how severe.
Unlikely to be lami from the history, but could well be sprain - cold hose, rest and bandage for support, perhaps?

Wow thanks guys - will phone her now - I think she is thinking of putting magnetic boots on - prob best not! He is on box rest at mo for a couple of days to see if sprain. I will ask her to look at sole to see if abscess. thanks again. Any other ideas experiences welcome - the more the merrier to give to her!!!

Hi again
If an abscess, the horse is often unlevel for a day or two, then rapidly becomes much lamer....with heat and a strong pulse.
You need a vet/farrier to dig them out though (and it smells!)
Hope he/she is sound soon
S :-)
